The offending dealer (well, they certainly offend me - refer to the thread "broken aircon during service") is .....

Inchcape Ford, Farnborough.

Strange really as I have a Renault Scenic that my wife now drives that was bought from, and serviced by, Inchcape in Guildford - and they've always been excellent. Now I really do wish that I had bought an Espace insted of a Galaxy.

Wonder how long it will be before my Galaxy is fully working again?

(Anyone want to open a book?)

Sorry to hear about your aircon troubles. not sure if the Esapce would be any better though. When I was deciding which MPV to get, I read in "What Car" magazines reliability survey, done through one of the warranty companies, that the Espace was one of the most unreliable cars, which put me straight off them.

I can recommend using a air conditioning specialist to look at you car as the Ford dealers do charge the systems properly . I fact they generally over charge the system and cause the compressor oil to be removed from the compressor into the rest of the system.

He inspected my system , added a bit of gas , it sounded ok so he added a full charge. Then the compressor sounded like a bag of bolts when loaded up ! obviously the compressor was knackered. The kind technician apologised and reccomended I got a new compressor. The nicest thing was he did not charge me

Ah well.....I copied my letter to Ford's to the local Dealer Principal. He's just phoned me at home to apologise for the problems and explain what happened. Apparently my car had a small hole in the condenser causing the gas to leak. It appears to have just been coincidence that the problem got "flagged" at the service they did, but was not picked up by their staff. Of course, they didn't test the compressor when they investigated the fault (no satisfactory explanation as to why not, though) so when the condenser was changed, it was only then that they discovered, as reported by others on this forum, that when the compressor tries to pump an "empty" system it gets ruined.

So now we continue to wait for a replacement compressor (come on, Ford, get your fingers out!) and I'm told that I'll get priority treatment to get the car fixed when the bits arrive.

Now that the whole story so far has been explained to me, I feel a bit less unhappy......but it's not over yet (so fingers crossed).

I'm a happy bunny again! Inchcape Ford sorted the aircon at last, yesterday. The dealer principal even phoned me at home in the evening to check that all was well with the car, which it is.

He also told me that they were still waiting for the compressor to come in from Ford's spares sytem, and that they had sourced one from another dealer in Kent to speed up my repair. So, third time lucky and my confidence in the dealer is restored.

Sadly this is more than can be said for Ford's customer assistance centre who responded to my letter in a somewhat negative and disinterested way.
