Guest mick Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Looking at buying new Galaxy, but undecided as to whether 115 or 130ps is the better option. First thoughts are 'bigger is best', but is the extra power really noticeable for every day driving? Intend using the car both in UK and also on continent (there now), mainly on the German autobahns. Presently own a Pontiac Trans sport 3.8 V6 (V expensive; V big drink problem, but V smooth). Are the Xenon headlamps worth it? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 IMHO, the 130 is worth the extra IF you do reasonable mileages regularly, which sounds like you certainly do. I currently commute 90 miles total at 43.6 mpg, and the engine has just started to loosen up (5500 miles). Yes, you can tell the difference between them in everyday driving, and the 130 is about 7% more economical. I would look around at the 3 makes before committing an order - they vary in spec/deal quite a bit at various times according to each manufacturers current promotions. The VW is usually dearest with the highest depreciation, and is therefore sold in much smaller numbers than Ford or Seat. Amazing, since VW sell the Galaxy to Ford these days, and Ford add their mark-up. Xenon headlamps - why bother? Quote
Guest mick Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Thanks for this - I had a feeling that was the case. I'll look at spending on the 130 rather than the lights! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 The "ordinary" halogen headlamps on the current-shape Galaxy seem pretty good to me - much better than on the Renault Scenic I drove previously and which my wife now drives, and almost as good - perhaps slightly better- than on the Rover 820 I had before that - and the dipped beam lights on that Rover were some of the best that I've experienced. The xenons are around Quote
