Guest j_mchattie Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Has anyone else got a judder on pull away? The judder is from the clutch/transmission and can be felt throught the seats. Its only on the bite, not during clutch-up driving, and can be done in any gear if the revs are higher than the current engine turn over speed. Ford recommend changing the Rear roll restrictor - has anyone done this? Did it do anything? My car - Mondeo mk1 (93) 1.8i Zetec-E manual trans. I had my clutch changed and it made no difference, so thats not to blame. Perhaps ford are actually right... perhaps the engine does twist too much during the bite... perhaps pigs can actually fly... Any suggestions please Thanks James Quote
Guest tubbylardo Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 My Mk1 1.8 does the same. It also judders when driving along and the throttle is closed???? It only does this when the clutch is up. Not a major pain but it does ittiate when coasting up to junctions etc. Also, the idle speed seems to have a mind of it's own... It can't decide if it wants to be at 900rpm, 1000rpm or 1500rpm.... Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I get the same with the idle. It should be around 800 when the car is stopped. But over 4kph (2.4mph), the Vehicle speed sensor sets it a little higher, 900-1000. The steering also adds 50rpm to idle, theres a pressure switch that deals with that Mine sometimes likes the 1500 point, but a blip on the throttle sets this back to where it should be. No luck on the judder yet. I still have the Rear roll restrictor to change. Quote
Guest tubbylardo Posted March 9, 2005 Report Posted March 9, 2005 Ah, the problem appears to have been sorted by the local fraud squeeler. My thermostat wasn't working thus the car didn't think it was warming up and therefore keeping the mixture rich. This was (a) making the car run poorly when warm and (:D making carbon and soot deposits build on the valves. The exhuast valve would then stick open when the car was in montion but the throttle was closed making the vehicle lung and vibrate as it was not clearing correctly etc. So the ford monkies fitted a new thermostat and I have added Wynn's injector cleaner to the fuel. Seems okay now. The judder on pull away has gone as has the idle speed problem. According to ford the mk1 16v had many early problems with sticking valves. We should all be able to keep them at bay with a simple additive to the fuel. Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 Changed the rear roll restictor (Torque Restrictor), and it has helped a little. I might change the front one too, and hopefully that will entirely cure the problem. Quote
