hitchhiker Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Agree with seatkid. I couldn't see any differences between the old and new MAF sensors but i didn't take the old sensor out of its housing to look closely in case i needed to put it back. A thin layer of corrosion on the internal components would be hard to determine with the naked eye anyway i guess. I didn't try driving with the old one disconnected because the mechanic said he was sure it was faulty. I think it should be a standard service replacement item at about 40k (depends on predominant driving conditions of course). Good luck on Saturday. If the old one turns out to be ok you can always keep the new one for a later time when the MAF does need replacing. HH Quote
Railman Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 If its your MAF thats gone and it seems the most likely check out Ebay there is one for sale for around Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Hmm... So, if a MAF is faulty.... Does it throw up a fault code? Does driving with it disconnected throw up a code or do any damage? Should we all disconnect ours tomorrow and see if our cars slow down? If we do, and they do - are they faulty?? Just wanted to be sure.. Mike Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 Jush had a mooch... Apparently VAG-COM does the job, an a lot more besides.... You learn something new every day lol... Info HERE! Mike Quote

Guest WOZZA Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005  HI THERE! I HAVE A 2000 1.9TDI ZETEC, 110BHP, AND HAVE BEEN SUFFERING A LACK OF POWER FOR ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW. I HAVE FOUND A WEB SITE, AND IT EXPLAINS HOW TO CLEAN AND RECONDITION THE DREADED MAF SENSOR. THE EXPERT DEMONSTRATES EXACTLY TO TO REMOVE AND CLEAN (WITH PHOT0'S) "THE MAF SENSOR IS A NON SERVICIBLE PART" MEANING THAT IT IS NOT EXAMINED 'EVER' DURING ANY SERVICE INTERVALS. THE OWNER MUST SERVICE THE SENSOR HIMSELF, BY REMOVING AND REGULAR CLEANING WILL ELIMINATE ANY BUILD UP OF DIRT CLOGGING UP THE WIRES.IT GETS AS DIRTY AS THE AIR CLEANER, ("WE ALL KNOW HOW DIRTY THEY CAN GET"). CHECK IT OUT! I THINK IT IS VERY IMFORMATIVE, "ESPECIALLY FOR ANYONE EXPIRENCING 'LACK OF POWER'!. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm Quote
Guest MATT Posted February 28, 2005 Report Posted February 28, 2005 looks useful...it may encourage me into having a look at it, but ime nervous about spraying stuff in it - Quote
GaryM Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I spent ages before I chnged the MAF as I did not want to shell out the dosh for no reason. Being no car mechanic the biggest thing that put me off changing it was all the posts here that say disconnect it and if it runs better then the sensor is faulty. In my case disconnecting it made things worse leading me to think my MAF was fine. Trying various things to fix my lack of power (mainly top speed) I eventually opted for a new MAF off eBay ( Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Looks like my eBay was a dud. ...WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT E-BAY QUOTE ME'I THINK EBAY IS THE DODGIEST PLACE ON EARTH!' matt, glad your gal is running good. Quote
