Ecu Interference Problems

Hello

I have a T reg Focus 1.8 LX. I have recently been experiencing some electrical problems while driving in certain areas. In certain areas my car's rev counter irratically goes up and down and allows the engine to stall along with a momentarily loss of dashboard lights.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem so I can get closer to fixing it.

Many thanks

I think ECU interference would be the wrong avenue. Id start by looking for loose connectors. Take them all off, clean them and put them back on. I had loads of trouble with my vehicle speed sensor which made my car stall all the time. As for the dash board lights - they arent controlled by the ECU (unless anyone knows differently?) - so the ECU is perhaps not your problem.

Connectors connectors connectors...... or perhaps water ingress in your wiring looms. The engine bay heat should dry out the wires there - but the floor looms in the cabin might be wet. If you can (or have a garage) try drying the entire car for a few days and drive it then.

It might be as simple as a bad earth (check the one by the battery in particular).

Sounds like poor connection or bad earth somewhere - problems more likely to be caused by bumps in the road than by stray EMI/EMC.

HT leads 'were' known to cause problems like this on early focus models, worth checking the routing of the leads for all the time it will take.ECU does control most of the dashboard lights(speed/tacho/alternator etc)
