Has anyone any ideas why my Galaxy shakes whilst towing and under high load (uphill at about 2000rpm) Dealer unable to come up with solution. This is a shake and not a vibration.

The Galaxy is a 2001 manual model with approx. 40000miles on the clock

It also occurs whilst solo and has only just started since last Sept

i wont say anything.

Have you tried changing up a gear - not to state the obvious?

Or you might be towing something thats too heavy for a 1.9TDI.

Just out of interest - is it a caravan your towing?

I had the same problem with mine. See this - thread Transmission "run-out"/wobble, or worse? -

Mine is pretty much cured by replacing both driveshafts/CV Joints. Initially the garage only changed one but then replaced the other (both under warranty).

Sometimes I can still feel the wobble if heavily laden and going up hill, so I'm monitoring at the moment before asking the garage to do more checks.

Depends how skilled you are!

You need to slide back the rubber gaiters and make sure the joints are packed with grease. Just then need to slide the gaiter back into place. I think you can re-secure them with cable ties but I stand to be corrected.

I'm not sure what type of grease you need, perhaps someone else on the forum could answer that one.

Sorry the answer is a bit vague but I'm not that good at car DIY.

I had the same prob just before the driveshaft fell off (the bolts came loose) I lost the three bearings that fit on the spider inside the cup and couldn't get them replaced so I am still off the road. Better check those bolts are tight

Molybdenum (moly) grease.
