Guest PHILLIPW Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Our front footwells keep getting really wet due to the centre air-con system i think. Its a Y-collection model and has recently had a service. Ford said a pipe was blocked- whatever pipe they were on about hasn't made any difference as the front of the car keeps getting soaked!! There is no water dripping underneath the car. Has anyone had a similar problem , or know what could be causing it ? :( Ford were not much help so any help would be appreciated. :) Thank you for your comments. Its definitely the aircon leaking. I've had air con specialists look at it now. They said they need to get behind the gearbox to see whats going on- so all of the carpet in the car needs to come up. ! Its booked in with Ford again...!! ..happy days !Any other comments or similar probs welcome..Cheers :D Thanks for your info (curly & Dally) ,much appreciated. !
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Does it only happen when raining? Where I used to work, guy there bought a new "P"-reg Ka and had continual problems with rain leaking through the passenger door and into the car, soaking the carpet. I left there before he got it fixed so I don't know the outcome, but I know that he'd had at least 3 attempts to sort the sealing out before I left.
Guest curly Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Hi Yup it's definitley air con water! My wifes 1997 Ka 3 has been doing it for years!! been Back to ford .... but they can't cure it! My remidy is put the front up a pair of car ramps [ it will fit] crawl underneath and where the gear selector shaft comes through the floor there's a heat sheild over the exhaust. Inside this sheild is a small rubber pipe coming through the floor.I find the easiest way to clear it is by using a foot pump with the little pointy adapter in the end, and blow air up the pipe! A couple of pumps and a few bubbles later the water WILL come flooding out! I usually have to do this once a month in summer!! Hope it helps! ps. Dont try pushing anything sharp up the hose cos it doesn't work and if you puncture the hose inside the car ...wet footwells forever!
Dally Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Snap, Curly. My wifes fiesta does the same. The water is created when the warm air hits the ice cold air con condensor which is located near the heater matrix just like in a refrigerator. When this water drips off, it collects in a water resorvoir underneath it and drains out of the car through the rubber pipe that Curly has mentioned. Often due to debris that has collected and mildew from the water, blockages can occur. When this happens, the water spills into the footwells usually made worse when cornering. I have used a thin tube in the past but Curly's suggestion looks the biz.. I really do think that this design fault could be resolved by replacing the pipe with a slighter larger diameter and a more rigid one because with my wifes car, the probem was made worse by a kink in the pipe where it passes through the bodywork.
