Guest rusty Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Hi There So, what's the catch playing at? My Mk2 storage bin (central one on top of dash) is a b***** and a half to open. Press the button to release the catch and I have to put my thumb on the front lip of the lid and lift to open...... Annoying because its the only thing wrong with the car at the moment (touch wood, rub the rabbits foot, turn around ten times etc etc Anyhow, might of guessed, to buy a new part from Ford (all in one ) is Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Take a look around the catches, some times the glove box lineing overspills into the latch holes causeing them to stick, if this is the case trim the excess back and see how you get on Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 I had this with mine - a plastic bit shears off and its the part against which one of the springs presses.Take the whole central cubbyhole out - IIRC 4 torx screws to undo. Drill hole through the offending corner at the rear of the cubbyhole (on mine, the bit that broke off also took out a hole in the corner so I didn't have to drill!)Fix a long-ish bolt through here, head inside the cubbyhole. Fit from the outside washers of increasing size so that they can take the load of the spring pushing against them. Secure with 2 nuts, one locked to the other so they do not come free under vibration. Re-fit cubby unit complete to the dash. If you want, you can the paint the bolt head black to match the interior of the cubbyhole. As I had a selection of spare bolts in the house, my repair cost me nothing. If necessary, you will need to go to the nearest large B&Q Eec to buy appropriate fixings. Quote

chromedome Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 I had the same problem with my Galaxy. Just went round the edges of the latch holes with a sharp knife taking any rough edges off. The box now opens everytime without problems. Thanks to everyone for their input. Quote
Guest rusty Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Yippee - works like a dream. It's the little things that please - isn't it? Thanks to all. Russell Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Well, you've been lucky. Mine was definitely not a "scrape with scalpel" but a "rebuild with new hardware" job ! Quote
