dipsomaniac Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 Cruise control hasn't worked since I have had the car but have not been too bothered. Had to change an indicator bulb today so I thought I would take a look at the pump and vacuum pipes. There appears to be a vacuum pipe missing from the pump. There is an unconnected pipe within the cavity but the diameter of the bore is too big for the pump. Can anybody identify the loose pipe from the attached image or whether there should be another pipe connected to the pump and if so, where does it come from? http://img123.exs.cx/img123/3681/webdscf34207ui.jpg Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 Most of us have had problems with uploading pictures since the "temporary" move to an interim server; the Citroen cars site is still down after a few months. I suspect Kevin is having a few problems...... Quote

Velcrohead Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 The pipe goes on the end of the top connection, at a right angle to the existing small bore pipe and the bottom connection is left as is, that is how it's always been on my galaxy anyway, and cruise control works perfectly, Infact I had to change the pipe over Christmas as it had perished to far this time. dipsomaniac Posted January 21, 2005 Author Report Posted January 21, 2005 Thanks Velcohead, I appreciate your help. I am confused as the loose pipe does not reach the top connector. Should I try adding an extention before fitting? Is the arrowed connection on the pump totally redundant on you Galaxy? Quote

The pipe in your picture looks exactly the same as the pipe I changed on mine, and yes the other connector is redundant. Quote
Velcrohead Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Just looked on the TIS cd and There do not appear to be any breather pipes in that area, so yes you need to replace or extend, I used about 6 inches of pipe to replace it with, It should attach to a plastic tube at the other end. dipsomaniac Posted January 21, 2005 Author Report Posted January 21, 2005 Thanks Velcrohead. My TIS doesn't cover the mk1 Galaxy. I would never have thought to connect the pipe to the top connector as it looks capped. Still a little confused as to why the pipe doesn't reach or how long it has been disconnected and haven't traced the pipe back as it disappears under the battery tray, you know how limited space is under the bonnet? Can you just confirm the connection again and hopefully I will soon have cruise control, unlike the Aurora. http://img84.exs.cx/img84/8099/webdscf34193mh.jpg Quote

Velcrohead Posted January 22, 2005 Report Posted January 22, 2005 Would you be able to retake the picture by any chance (assuming it still doesn't work) so we can see a less blurry image. Quote
dipsomaniac Posted January 22, 2005 Author Report Posted January 22, 2005 Will try to get some pipe today. Ford didn't have the pipe or connector. Will let you know how I get on. Quote

dipsomaniac Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 I now have cruise control for the first time since I bought the car 14 months ago - Thanks again Velcrohead. After trimming back some of the old pipe (it had perished) I had to use a connecter to connect the new pipe to the old. I didn't have a plastic one coming out of the engine bay - mine was in one piece and disappeared under the battery tray. I have attached a picture of the pump as it should look for anyone with a similar problem. http://img193.exs.cx/img193/3187/webdscf34262mo.jpg Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 A friend of mine is in the same situation his cruise control hasnt work since he bought the car, his answer for not fixing it is, that it's one more thing to confuse his Mrs with so it's staying U/S :( Quote
