Ok, just need to get an idea of what DVD systems are out there that I could fit myself to the Galaxy. Have seen a few systems mentioned, but would like to get a definitive list going.

Would appreciate if people could respond to following:

1 - DVD Player model

2 - TFT Display Models

3 - Any Extras, i.e PS/2

4 - Price of Setup

5 - Ease of Installation/fitting location.

Notes - Any other useful information that may help myself and others when choosing this system.

thanks a lot.

Having researched the various options available I have decided to go for the portable option and the Centurion DVD player (multi region) with twin TFT LCD wide screen, two headphones (independent volume control), full remote control and a dinky carry bag seemed to be the best available. See http://www.centurionsystems.co.uk for further information.

Argos are selling the complete system for only

Self fitted Toad DVD and flip down roof mounted screen, infra red headphones and soon to be linked into the main sound system via an aux input lead via the CD multi changer lead! I found out I can run two inputs via this lead and switch them via the front panel

next is either a sun visor screen on the passengers side or a flip out screen in the top glove box lid for the front passenger

the Toad system is plug n play one lead does the lot, powers the screen and the carries the signal so is easy to fit, the hardest part was mounting the screen, I used the support bars just behind the sun roof to screw into and mounted a couple of plates behind it to spread the load

I have the factory fit DVD package (DVD and 2 screens in the headrests).

However, I have also added:

- Pioneer DVD motorised screen head unit to the front which powers front and both rear screens. Also can show DVD from Ford unit - so both ways.

- Panasonic Freeview box so can watch TV (and extra channels) - this is better than regular TV tuner which never gets good enough signal. With Freeview, I can watch TV on the move although at high speeds you lose the signal a bit

- iPOD connection

- replaced speakers all round

- Pioneer 200w powered amp bass unit in the back

This means I can watch DVD in front and can use either of the 2 DVD players to run them - can use/watch alternate TV/DVD/CD/Radio/IPOD in front rear etc i.e. kids can watch a film in back and listen via headsets and I can do something different in the front.

Sound quality if amazing and Ipod connection lead is only about

timwood2000,

How is you freeview rigged up? what ariel do you use and how do you power it? I had a TV reciever in my last Gal but could never get a good signal, so i diddnt bother this time but sometimes i dont half miss it

The Freeview box is a domestic box - a Panasonic, and the ICE shop have adapted the power supply for car use. It sits nicely on a shelf they built under the glove box in the passenger seat footwell area. I used the same ariel as I had for the regular TV tuner as I was told it wouldn't make much difference - it is stuck to the rear side window. The cost was about

Timwood 2000, can you help with the ipod connection?

I can only get a faint signal through the aux input. unfortunately no manual with the factory fitted sat nav so I am totally in the dark.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks

my next addition is deffinately going to be another screen for the front passenger! today we took out a load of Brownie's, more than we have headphones for  so I piped the sound through the stereo speakers, that wasnt so bad but it's bloody annoying trying drive while listening to the action on screen and not haveing a clue whats going on :( I had to come home and watch Freaky Friday on my own :( with the curtains closed and the sound down low so that nobody knew

Wheezer: the low sound level on the iPod could be for two possible reasons

1) Have you checked that the volume on the iPOD itself is turned up high?

2) Don't know what head unit you have, but some have a facility to adjust the standard volume level. On my Pioneer, I have done this and it comes out the same as the radio, Cd etc.

VR6Galaxy: For your front screen, I used a 'stick on' rear view mirror on the rear window - this reflected the picture off the headrest screens and you could then see the picture on the rear view mirror on the front windscreen. A bit basic, but not bad for

Done some more research after reading these posts.

It looks like the Sony package is a good one to get, i.e MV101 player and XVM-H65 6.5" screens, as long as you dont want multiregion dvd (any hacks?).

I had a look around for best deals and found the cheapest package seemed to be a 1 screen, dvd player, headphones for

Hi,

is the general feeling that the Sony mv101 is a good player, even if it isn't region free.

my player from mp3store has died after about a year, and I need to replace it

any other suggestions for good (cheap) players. I'd buy a portable system, but the Galaxy is already wired with a roof mounted screen

I have a dvd player from MP3 store brand new in the box if you interested

It would be striaght replacement

My wife won't let me put one in the car, I brought 2 Kenwood screens that I use when we do karaoke one so we can see what disc is loading and the other for when we are recording a singer onto DVD which we don't do so often so my idea was she could look at the big screen the singers use and I could fit the 2 Kenwoods in the car get a player and I'm laughing.

She told me to pi*s off  .

I think the mv101 is sound. I replaced the one in the galaxy for a multi region and I 'm now on my second player.

The MV101 has been in my wife's car since and has worked faultlessly.

Hi Ian,

thanks for the offer, but I'm a bit wary of the innovateks after the problems that I had with my last as I tend to play backups in the car.

I think that I'll plump for the Sony, even if it isn't region free, and it doesn't seem to be hackable, though the Argos solution with Frogger is tempting.
