Guest Airforce One Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Sorry to be a bother...I Have had a 2.0 EFI since the summer of last yearShe is a lovely car, but she is doing my head in.... only when she feels like it...it's as if she just cant be bothered just wont be having none of it .. still goes just total lack of poweryou can try and boot the pedal nothing happens..just more noisewhen it first started it was between 2700 and 3500 revsnow it happens at any time ..mostly when she is climbing or under strain but can be at any timeshe has been on the computer and they have checked her for faults but nothiing showingdoes the air filter make that much difference?to the engine perfomance i mean any help would be brillthanks guys, Airforce One Quote
johnb80 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 The air filter will not make that much difference. There can be issues however with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). There's a pip connected between the exhaust manifold and the inlet manifold with a valve in it. At certain times and conditions when the combustion temperature is high the valve opens and admits exhaust gas into the inlet manifold, the net result is the lowering of combustion temperature by limiting the anount of oxygen in the cylinder. The valves can stick open so it's permanently in this condition, my Scorpio used to do exactly what you're saying, lifeless and at constant speeds it felt hesitant. In my case the valve had failed, I fitted a new one and it fely like the engine had been turbocharges it was really dramatic. The fault on my Scorpio didn't show up on diagnostics either. Hope this helps Regards - John Quote
Guest Airforce One Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 so this isn't the famous (or infamous) maf problem then?i have been reading the posts on here and a lot of them have advised this or are they just on diesels?thanx Quote
johnb80 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 I don't think the 2.0 has the MAF problems. Not 100% on the Gal installation, certainly not on the Scorpio. The MAF seems to hit the diesel variants of the Gal (not mine YET!!!) Regards - John Quote
Topbloke Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 i dont know what system they are using but they should be able to do what is called a snapshot, that is drive the vehicle with the system connected and it should be able to record all that is happening, when the problem occurs it should be able to capture the data and he should be able to dechiper what the problem is, i know that this may take up his precious time but it all depends on what sort of service he wishes to give his customers and the quality of his tool (ohh matron). a fault code should be treated as a guide to what the problem is but not always. the problem will occur once in a jouney a code may or maynot register then when you turn the ignition off then back on it do's a self check every things back where it should be and disregaurds an previous fault it may not even register as a fault ! johnb80 Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 If it is the EGR stuck open, this doesn't show up, there's no sensor to detect lack of oxygen in the inlet manifold all that happens is that the fuelling gets shut down because the exhaust is showing a rich mixture hence a total lack of performance but no faults !!! Guest Airforce One Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 how do i find thid EGR - cos i am a complete mechanical idiotand would i be able to tell if it is broke without replacing it?sorry I know I'm hard work!! Quote
johnb80 Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I don't know the layout on the 2.0 Galaxy, the engine I beleive is the same as the Scorpio. You need to locate the exhaust manifold. There will be a pipe connecting from there to the inlet manifold above. To check it, remove it and see if you can blow / get compressed air through it. If you can it's clean / replace time. Maybe some of the others with a parts diagram could post a piccy to help ?? Regards - John Quote
