Bigjeeze Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Can someone please advise me. On my wife's 1997 TDI the front heater motor only seems to work on 1 & 4. Is this controlled by a fuse or a relay or is it a motor fault. The Handbook seems to suggest a relay in under the bonnet - but that relay box only has one relay. Confused of Bournemouth! Quote
Goofygolfer Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 most prob the resistor pack burnt out,do a search you should find a how to :( Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 As the motor is running on two speeds it's ok, as is the switch, it's most likely the resistor pack that has failed! this allows the fan motor to run at the speeds you select via the switch by sticking the motor feed through a series of resistors, these vary in size the higher being speed one and the lowest speed three, speed four is a direct feed from the switch so that is why the fan motor runs even when the resistor pack has totally failed! Blower motor resistor Finis Code 7 275 956 nimrod As mentioned by topbloke the heater motor resistor pack has been covered before including photo's of the pack but they are no longer on the forum so........ the resistor pack is located on the side of the fan unit up under the dash, best way to it is to remove the lower glove box, then you should be able to see either a green or alloy metal plate bolted to the side of the heater unit with a cable plugged onto it? this is the resistor pack, remove and replace it and the fan should run at all four speeds? glove box is removed by opening it and locating the stops/supports on either side open the box till it wont open any more and push the stops down out so they disengage the slot and open the glove box up a bit more allowing you to see the pivot clip, pull the glove box out of these and store it safely as you will need it to fill the hole again once you have finished fixing the heater Quote
Bigjeeze Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 Thanks Guys I'll let you know how I get one Cheers Quote
Bigjeeze Posted January 12, 2005 Author Report Posted January 12, 2005  Thanks Guys - the new resistor pack arrived today - took about 10 mins to fit and now all is in order. Thanks again Gary Quote
Guest rcg1 Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Gary - I am having a problem where my front blower has completely stopped working, and I am now prepared to try to replace the resistor pack. I have managed to take out the Glove compartment. However, I am not sure what is the resistor pack and how I can change this. Do you have any pictures on this? Thanks. Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 No I don't but there are some on here somewhere - just search for them. It really is very easy to do. Cheers Gary Quote
GSMGuy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 VR6, is that the finis for the modified pack, ie the faster speed 2? As mine is rubbish on 2 but too noisy on 3.. Also, how can I telll if mine already has the mod? (hope not) it's a 2002 facelift... Finally, how much are the packs? Mike Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 thank to Nick for the photo :D the RED block on he side of the evaporator houseing is the resistor packhttp://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/uploads/post-34-1115013942.jpg I now know why I gave mine to a garage to do when the heater matrix went ;) nice post on the topic Nick :D Quote
Guest rcg1 Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Thanks guys, You guys have confirmed for me that the red block is the resistor pack. Gary, I think Gary you said it took you 10 minutes to replace this. What's holding the red block into place. I think I can feel a screw just above where the connector wire block fits. Is this the only scree holding it in place. It does seem quite fiddly to remove as you can't see this screw, nor do you have enough free space to pull out the connector block and the resistor pack. Apologies for requesting the hand-holding but this is the first time I am attemtping to do any sort of electrical work in the car. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 It normally has just the one bolt/screw holding it in place, on mine it's a Torx's bolt, also it can be a bit of a pig to release off the heat sink, it may need a bit of a gentle persuasion ;) out of interest which glove box have you removed the upper or lower? because with the lower one removed I had no trouble getting to mine! Quote
Guest rcg1 Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 I only have one glove box in my Galaxy. I suspect this is the lower one because I have an air bag on the passenger side, which is probably where the upper compartment would normally be. It looks like the torx bolt/screw is what I need to remove, although I can't see it clearly nor is there much clearance from the adjoining unit on the left of it as you look into the glove compartment. BTW, will the new resistor pack also come with the heatsink or is this permamently mounted to the evaporator/blower unit. The reason for asking is for me to understand when I remove the pack, will the heatsink also come out - I suspect I will only see the red block that mounts onto it. Thanks for your quick response - very much appreciated. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 The heat sink stays puts it's just the resistor pack that comes off, it's been a long time since I did mine so I cant remember exactly how it comes off? sorry ;) Quote
