Guest Phil Waller Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Hello all, I have tried to do a search on the site for people with issues with missfires at idle and low revs. Mine is a slight occasional missfire at idle and from idle to about 2000 rpm. Everything on my vehicle is in good working order (plugs leads etc).. I am concious that the throttle body could need cleaning as it was filthy when I looked.. Is there anything else I need to check? Thanks Phil Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 I am concious that the throttle body could need cleaning as it was filthy when I looked.. Definitely clean it up before it causes trouble, even if it may not be directly responsible for your present rough running. Quote
Guest MATT Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 I had a 2.3 gal before this one, and it had missfires, came down to poor sparks  Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Check the coil packs, they are a known weak point! Quote
seatkid Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Is this a Scorpio? Is it worth fixing? I keep repeating .....95% of rough running problems are ignition related. Unless the ignition components are new, it is virtually impossible to say "plugs/leads etc" are OK. It is usually impossible to see the early breakdown (more leakage than breakdown) of these components. HT Leads particularly.... Its theyre old (5+ years), in this order treat yourself to 1. New distributor/rotor arm (if it has one)2. New leads3. New plugs Thoroughly examine and clean coil(s)/coilpack. Quote
