Guest carliterature Posted January 2, 2005 Report Posted January 2, 2005 Hi just found this website and decided on a (lengthy) first post... Please bear with me:- Bought a '96P Galaxy V6 Ghia in July - my wife gets to drive it 90% of the time though:-( I had a brochure from around the time of the car and it says the 2007 stereo that it's got is CD changer compatible. Does this mean it has the CD changer lead to the back of the car or just that it's possible to fit one? I've had a look behind the 'jack' panel in the boot under the 'cubby' but couldn't see a lead - do I have to actually remove the cubby liner, undoing the three screws or would I have seen it if it was there? I'd remove the stereo from the dash as an alternative but wouldn't know exactly what I was looking for if I do..? If/when I get a changer, does it sit in the cubby or underneath it (i.e. behind the 'jack' panel between those metal brackets and thick rubber band)? Although fitting the CD changer is preferable, I bought on eBay the FX3000 single-slot CD player, which I'd seen in an early '95 Galaxy brochure. I'd be happy to fit this as an alternative but I'm unsure whether the steering column controls for the volume etc will still work - anyone know if they do/should? Finally, everything about the car's been great except when the headlights are turned on (and only then), the speaker at the base of the windscreen on the passenger side (is it a tweeter?) crackles/buzzes. Any suggestions how to stop this, or in a worse case scenario, disconnect that particular speaker (how the hell do you get at it?)? Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can give. Cheers Keith/carliterature Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 2007 stereo that it's got is CD changer compatible. Does this mean it has the CD changer lead to the back of the car or just that it's possible to fit one? a bit of both! :) yes the head unit can run a cd multi changer and the lead may be installed and it may not? if any where it will tucked up on top of the wheel arch, possibly taped to the loom running along there If/when I get a changer, does it sit in the cubby or underneath it (i.e. behind the 'jack' panel between those metal brackets and thick rubber band)? multi changer sits in the lidded storage bin, if you look in the bin you will see a cable entry knock out near the C post end of the bin the warning triangle and first aid kit sit in the metal bracket, held in place by the rubber band Keith/carliterature carliterature ............. is that your hobby? if so do you collect or sell? Guest MATT Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I had a CD Changer fitted to my face-lifted galaxy, it a 6 cd changer, Sony, Radio in the front is the ford 4050 (I think) and they had to remove the flooring to put the wires in, they had to put a Converter in, so that the ford & Sony brands work together. They put the changer in a pocket at the back (the one with a lid) (the changer came with little brackets for mounting it) and it was all done by halfords. Sony CD Changer = Quote
Guest carliterature Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I've just taken out the cubby liner and looked on top of the wheel arch as suggested. I think I've found the lead - could anyone confirm from my description? It's wrapped in some sort of black cloth and visible for an inch at the end are several different coloured thin wires. At the very end is a small, black, square plug with 12 ports (6 on 6). Oh and there's also a rubber collar near the end of the lead, presumably to sit in the little knock-out panel on the bottom of the cubby liner. Assuming that is it, and assuming I get the Visteon changer, is it pretty much a case of plugging the lead into the changer and securing it in the cubby and off we go? Or is it a little more 'techie' than that? Does anyone have any idea about the front speaker buzzing? Thanks so far everyone, Keith/carliterature Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 That sounds like the lead :) you can pick up compatable multi changers from most good ICE shops, the online ones have a good selection of them as wellhttp://www.add-a-cdchanger.co.uk/http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/default.asphttp://www.sceniccaraudio.co.uk/ this guy has one specifically for the Sharan and the lead to go with it http://stores.ebay.co.uk/VW-Speeds-Shop Quote
Guest carliterature Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Having read through a few of the other posts and scouring the net, I've plumped for the Visteon 2080. All being well it'll be here soon. And, as a result, I've just put that FX3000 I bought off eBay in my old 92 Sierra estate. Bonus was the seller had left a Dido CD in it too which I only found when I plumbed it all in! Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Bonus was the seller had left a Dido CD in it too which I only found when I plumbed it all in! I'm sure the last thing going through his mind as he feed the hose up the exhaust pipe and through the car window was to remove the Dido cd :o mind you if he did it could have saved his life as the urge to die would have stopped when the sad whineing voice of Dido did  can you tell I'm not a Dido fan ? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Who is Dido and is he/she missing something (L)? Now if someone had left something by Mozart in there....... Quote
Guest MATT Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Bit behind the times?Didos web pageget with it man  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 I've never been "with it" as far as music goes; still prefer classical stuff and Matt Monroe, Roger Whittaker, Andy Williams, Pavarotti, Lesley Garrett - she drives a Galaxy too!Beverley Craven is about as modern as I get. Quote
Guest gritrash Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 They put the changer in a pocket at the back (the one with a lid) (the changer came with little brackets for mounting it) and it was all done by halfords. i too have a sony 6 disc changer, but mounted under the front passenger seat. Well out of view, and works well. Get to keep the lidded compartment in the 'boot' for other bits 'n' bobs.Halfords fitted a cd changer for me in my previous car and managed to put a 1/2 inch screw right through the boot floor until it poked out the bottom of the car. Livid was not the word... Quote

Livid was not the word... Bad luck  At least it wouldnt turn into a deadly object when applying the brakes sharply!! Quote
Guest carliterature Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Just returned in from a wet and windy night fitting the Visteon CD changer which arrived this morning. Must admit, very pleasantly surprised at how the whole thing went and how well it sounds... Sure it won't be long before my missus removes the Manics CDs currently filling up the magazine though... Thanks to all who've helped and made suggestions... and if free advertising's allowed, feel free to bid on any of this lot: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQ...osortpropertyZ2 Cheers Keith/carliterature PS - Please remove the link if I've broken forum rules.
