My 2000 reg Galaxy 1.9 TDI 110 bhp has recently started to develop intermittent and very short term (typically 2 - 4 second) loss of loss of power typically when accelerating on a motorway slip lane, when starting to overtake, or when cruising at say 60 - 70 on a motorway.

The problem occurs perhaps at most once or twice on a 90-mile journey.

At all other times the engine seems OK, runs moothly, and pulls relatively well.

I would welcome any advice.

I had the same problem, using the diagnostic lookup I found that I had an intermittent accelerator pedal position sensor, replaced the pedal sensor assembly and was well again.

This fault causes the instant loss of power and if left will result in MIL flashing and limp home mode to cut in (1200rpm max).

If you have access to a VAG COM unit or similar check it out or disconnect the pedal assy from the loom and using an accurate DVM check the whole travel of the sensor on both tracks.

Good Luck

Thanks for helpful suggestions: I shall get the fault codes read / or check the accelerator sensor with DVM, then go on to the wastegate and finally MAF (the MAF was replaced at 97k so may be Ok - though that is now some 14k distant)
