Just ordered the parts to upgrade my non heated screen to a heated version, after trawling through the VW parts list (bored with plenty to do but cant be asked :D ) I came across the loom for the heated screen as well as a load other looms :o so while was in the Ford dealers today picking up my heated washer jets I tapped the parts guy up for a look through his parts lists and there it was :D at

I know a windscreen fitter who will fit a new screen and not even charge the excess on my insurance, I wonder if he would oblige...

I've only ordered the loom and the switch, I forgot the relay :P as I dont have CC only AC there is no problem about conection to any electronics!

from the VW parts list diagram you can work out what bit goes where as all the connectors are labeled on the diagram and listed as spares!

mthe loom consists of the fuse panel connectors, the switch plug, and the connectors for either side of the screen, plus the bits of wire inbetween :o

Update...

All I need now is the relay and the screen :D I have just got in from fitting the loom :D we have been out all day and will be out again tomorrow so now was the only time I had to do it! :) well I really just went out to see where every thing went? but it looked so easy that I did it there and then! it only took ten/fifthteen minutes!

the fuse holder and relay socket just clip onto the existing blocks on the fuse board, the three way plug just fell out the space behind the fuse board as I unclipped the board to gain access to it :) and the neutral block had a spare way sitting right where I needed it, in the easist place to plug into :D

the existing switch just popped out once the trim panel was removed and the new one popped in nicely :D

the hardest bit is going to be getting the cables to either side of the screen via the back of the dash! but that's a job for another cold windy night :)

once I get the relay (monday) and feed the cables into place I will be able to test it all out, and if it works I will have to get a new heated front screen fitted and a new battery to cope with all the extra demand! :(

I am sure you sould persuade your local windscreen man to replace your std screen with a heated screen... Bearing in mind your ins co will be paying.... Sshh!!!

Just an idea..

Well funny you should say that but the screen has a couple of bullet holes (big stone chips!) in it! :) the guy at auto glass said that they could repair them but as they are old ones and the laminates are showing signs of splitting it's better to replace the screen, I happened to mention that I fancy a heated screen and said that's no problem we can get one and fit when you need it :( which might just be next week :)

All sorted <_< well nearly! just need the screen and it's all done :D picked up the relay at lunch time, plugged it in and.......... nothing happened! the indicator on the switch didnt illuminate! turns out I hadnt plugged in the feed to the relay into the right connector but plugged it into the gap between the connectors on the block <_< took me a little while to find out why the relay wasnt working :D stuck a temp supply to it and it all worked ok :D so while I was checking the connections through I gave the cable a tug and out it fell! plugged it back in and it, pressed the button and it all worked ok :D

it's such an easy upgrade that I cant see why I didnt do it earlier? now what's next on the list?..............heated seats, rear electric windows?

Heated seats................forget that idea it appears the heated seat loom and heated windscreen loom are an all in one loom, where as the heated screen loom is available as a seperate loom, so I'll stick to the heated screen and just stick to wearing the thermals in the cold <_<

now what else can I fit instead? <_<

I already have a 130TDI with traction control, bloody thing gets turned off every time I switch on the engine! it interferes with power slides off wet round abouts
