pdsh1 Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Can I be unlucky again? Previously owned a Gal, had water in the Drivers footwell, unable to trace. Took a chance and had a new windscreen fitted, and it solved the prob. Bought a newer Gal and after heavy rain, same problem! Surely not again? Checked usuals, others problems seem to be on passenger side?Any ideas?? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Do a search on blocked drains, pollen filter (incorrectly fitted) for starters. Unlikely to be a windscreen seal problem this time round..... Quote
pdsh1 Posted December 30, 2004 Author Report Posted December 30, 2004 already checked scuttles, doesn`t the incorrectly fitted pollen filter only affect the passenger side? Quote
Guest adignam Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 already checked scuttles, doesn`t the incorrectly fitted pollen filter only affect the passenger side? hi guys, signed up tonight to find out more about this exact problem. sorry to be pedantic, but can someone give me step by step on how to check pollen filter and drain holes? tnxA Quote
Jack Posted January 25, 2005 Report Posted January 25, 2005 I had a similar issue of water in the passenger footwell, mine was by the door. I removed the plastic molding that runs along the side of the footwell, I found that the water pipe for the rear washer runs here and has a joint in it. This was leaking and getting into the footwell. A couple of cable ties round the joint cure it. Hope this helpsJack Quote
Guest Picard Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 I have a 1996 N galaxy, man water is a problem, although mine is in the passenger footwell. the problem lies with the water drains under the bonnet, these thing clog up with the smallest amount of dirt. i use a wire coat hanger on a frequent basis, stopped all leaks now. they are located in the upper most corners on the engine bay, they can be a little difficult to locate but you will know when you have hit the jackpot as the wire coat hanger will dissapear into the the abiss of the wheel arch, shortly followed by the steady trickling of dirty water flowing from the bottom of the car. hope this helps  Quote
BULLTERRIER Posted June 8, 2005 Report Posted June 8, 2005 had the same problem and it seemed to happen on an all too regular basis even after clearing out the water drains.solved it by placing an old bic pen casing into the drain plug and leaving it therehad no probs in over a year now Quote
grifjl Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 mine was due to a/c unit dumping condensation through crack in drainage plate and into footwell. Quote
Guest cowpat7777 Posted September 29, 2005 Report Posted September 29, 2005 This a bit late to add a reply to this topic but for the new shape galaxy the water ingress problem apears to be mainly down to the windscreen not sealing. Here is a simple check.......... take the trims off that run down the INSIDE of the windscreen side (you need to slide thm down and forward) Then put the hose on the car- water can be seen running in.Why is it difficult to find ???The interior trims are perfect gutters !! They channel the water to the very front of the dashboard areas, where it then runs back under the side de-mister trims, and then down the door hinge areas and eventually enter the car at the footwell- hey presto wet carpet and no sign of water. Have fun Quote
Guest Matt007 Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Yeah i has found that mine is rather wet in the drivers side too! Just need to check and see where the problem is now. lol They really should do a bit of a better job at the waterproofing! LOL Quote
Guest MR-GOOSE Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 I got the same prob water in passenger footwell but is rear wiper water jet feed (not fixed yet) Only happens when i use rear jet lol Quote
mossy Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 Had the same problem with my old 96 galaxy. The sunroof run-off pipes that travel down both front pillars, the left one had detached itself from the sunroof water collection pan. Bad design where the pipe was only pushed on no clip holding it. Remove some of the inside trim on the sunroof and you can easily check the connection, 1hour's work. Also the original cause of this problem might have been the last owner sticking down a rod into the pipe to free it might have disloged the aging plastic pipe. Quote

hondengines Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 has same issues in pasenger footwell, it ws the black plastic trim to the exterior of the windscreen, its held on by sticky things, if you remoove it and put it back on, it breaks the seal and water gets in to channel, hence wet feet, found it with the hose trick, so, if anyone has wet feet, and had a new windscreen, i bput money on it its that, as the windscreen guy will not expect to reseal there, just a dab of silicone sorted it,, steve fae glasgow, v plate 2.3, Quote
bangbus Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 I also had water in the passenger footwell from a detached screenwash pipe. The rear screen wash comes apart if you dont use enough screen wash in winter to prevent the pipes freezing. Quote
johnroe Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I had the same thing with my 97RI went to the car in the morning after a night's solid rain and found all 5 windows wide open and the central locking system locking and unlocking the doors about 100 times per minute! It must have been going all night because the locks got so hot that it burnt the paint off the rear door around the lock. I assumed at the time that the control box had gone faulty and had opened the windows causing the flood. This cost me a couple of hundred pounds or so to be replaced but I only found out the cause when the foot well again flooded and the central locking went haywire again. This time though the windows stayed closed and I tracked the problem down to the under bonnet drainage tubes.Luckily I managed to dry the control box out with a fan heater and everything was OK - I expect should have done that with the original control box but that's experience talking. Now I check the drainage on a regular basis especially in spring and autumn when blossoms and leaves get everywhere. Hope this saves someone time and money. Quote
edg Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 I have a 2003 1.9 Tdi Galxy -- had found water in both sides of the front footwells when I took possesion of the car last year. After stripping the inside out and many hours of leak searching, I eventually found that it was due to a faulty windscreen fitting. Quote

shaun1968 Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I have a 1999 Galaxy. Water is coming in passanger side by running down the wheel arch inside the car. I have cleared the drains and checked the pollen filter. Has any one got any other ideas what it might be? Quote

Plus constant honking from my 97R. I was totally baffled until I sat in the drivers seat and scratched my head, inadvertently touching the ceiling which dumped further water onto me! So I know its coming in from above me not the windscreen. Now I need to drag its carcass home and look at these scuttles and drain pipes. Deep joy and I was only remarking how well the old bus was doing 97R with 107K and feeling strong! If I dry the ECU out (my Central locking/Alarm has gone u/s) with a convection fan what is the likelihood of damage? Actually more importantly how do I get these out (are they under the drivers feet - thats were my new pond is) - I am to DIY and car mechanics what Herod was to childcare!! Ian Quote
tony77 Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Hi this is my second galaxy and the fist time i've had this problem on the passenger footwell check the back screen wash hose and it not that, were can the pollen filter and drain holes be found?thanks Quote

azzbamf Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 I had the same prob with mine about 4 yrs ago all the windows going down and loads of water in the front mainly on the passenger side and to add all the locks locking and unlocking.Searching for the problem i could see that water was coming from underneath the glove box, after about the third time it flooding, the CU board or whatever its called under the unlockable panel on the passengers side helps if you slide the seat forward was bubbling in its own little broth anyway after much worry and torment found out that it was the blocked drain under the drivers wind screen wiper motor arm i found by turning the wipers on and then cutting power when the winderwipers were upright it allowed easier access to the stick that had blocked the drainage hole and loads of leaves. The CU unit has now got a fault were if i leave it plugged in to its multipin socket when i lock the car up the interior light never switches of so i just leave it unplugged and lock all the doors manually and do with out the interiour light i can switch them on manually if needed i have heard of ford dealerships charging silly prices for finding the fault of the dreaded water leak and they know what it is and will charge you for your ignorance the rotten instead of saying there liable to blocking because we only put the tiniest of holes for your water to run down. hope this helps somebody because i can remember how i felt.
