Xenonman Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I can't seem to be able to remove the small bulb unit on the auto shift.I want to get it off so I can solder an LED in there. Cheers Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 According to Haynes it just lifts off the shifter lever? not haveing an auto I cant confirm this but it looks easy enough from the pictures  Quote
Xenonman Posted December 28, 2004 Author Report Posted December 28, 2004 I tried in vain to get it off, then got a bit bothered as it is the inhibitor switch as well, if it breaks the car won't start. Quote
Mauser Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Same problem as me m8,Can see it easily just cannot seem to work out how its held in place.Since I tried un-doing the switch screw anyone know a way to re-set it safely ?.Car starts OK at the moment, but what if I try to start it in drive and the switch thinks its in P ?.Plz any help appreciated on both issues .Simon Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 The switch is linked into the starter circuit, it's purpose is to stop the car being started in gear! it's set to only allow the car to be started in Park or Neutral to reset it place the lever in Park and push the button on the selector T bar or the knob on the selector shaft if the T bar is removed and hold it pressed in, now wind the screw in so the engine starts, then wind it out till it wont! now apparently you wind it back in a 1/4 turn and that should do it! as I said I dont an auto so I havent done this on a Galaxy but have on another car with an auto box in it and that car is still going 12 years later  Quote
Mauser Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Cheers VR6 ,I shall drink my coffee then go and reset the switch.... I hope lol.I shall then seal it back up with the wife's nail polish stuff if I can find it.Then I will attack the bulb holder again :(.Thanks again Simon Quote
Mauser Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Well switch seems fine .Now can someone please xplain this damn lamp holder I for the life of me cannot get it to come out.http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/bulb.jpgThats what I see and I have tried all sorts to remove it. There seems to small clips either side underneath, you can see one by the number 24 on the left... but these seem to do nothing ?.Most annoying as the bub should be replaceable by simplyt removing it :(.Any advise always appreciated.Simon Quote
Guest stevebm1 Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 this was covered in an earlier forum, the whole black plastic piece unclips,I had the bulb go and soldered an led in it's place,or you can buy a green bulb for Quote
Mauser Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 the whole black plastic piece unclipsHi I know it was covered I read the post what I need to know is how it un-clips ?.I have looked but cannot see whats holding it on, the 2 lower clips seem to release nothing... my seems dead tight and reluctant to move ?.If anyone has removed theirs and can help please tell me.What LED did you use I understood LED's were 5 volt as standard not 12 ?.Thanks Simon Quote
Xenonman Posted December 29, 2004 Author Report Posted December 29, 2004 As far as LEDs go you will need to add a 470 ohm resistor so that it wont blow with 12V.To determine the best resistor to use follow this simple formula. start off with the source voltage (in this case it would be 12v) then minus the LED voltage (say 3.6v for example). this would leave us with the number 8.4. now we divide this number by the amperage. generally about 20ma. (so we would divide 8.4 by .02) this leaves us with the number 420. and this is the required ohmage of the resistor you need. just get whatever is closest and away you go. Quote
