Guest Aaron76 Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 :( I'm new here so apologies for any mistakes. My '99 Ford Focus has recently developed an intermittent squeak on the wheel, it can be fairly quiet but other times painfully irritating. Generally, with the wheels in a straight line, minor corrections left or right results in what I can only describe as a mouse squeak as if something either in the wheel or in the connecting mechanics needs oiling. I've owned the car for 5-months and never had this problem. I've taken the car to my local Ford dealer who couldn't replicate the fault, and in the end when I managed to get it to work the engineer seemed to think it wasn't noticeable. Either he's deaf or I've got supersonic hearing, I don't think they were interested to be honest. I have been told that the uni-joints or CV-joints need lubricating, or it could be the clock-spring (but the Ford engineer didn't think so). Can anybody please offer me some advice on this, and if it is the uni-joints tell me where they are! I'm not very mechanical but this noise is driving me insane with frustration. I can get the fault to occur with the engine off, so I'm guessing its mecanical and not a power steering issue. Thanks for any help. Regards Aaron Quote
_dg Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Do you mean road wheel or steering wheel? On a previous car - Ford Orion, I had a noise from the steering. It was more of a light grind than a squeak and would occur at the same place/time when turning the steering wheel. It was diagnosed as a seasonal issue with a polyproplene washer somewhere on the steering column. IIRC, it was early summer when this happened, and only untill natural wear had occured which prevented it ongoing. Quote
