I have a Galaxy TDI 53 plate.

Problem started over the past week in the cold weather (-4 degree's ).

Plenty life in the battery but the starting motor won't turn. Starts with a bump within a few feet. Once running for a couple minutes, starts every time. However, the next morning after a frost does the same again.

Started no problem this morning, temperature was 8 - 9 degrees.

Anyone suffered the same problem or have any idea's.

When you turn the key and it doesn't start - do the dash warning lights and radio illumination go dim, or stay at the same brightness? (in other words, is the starter motor trying to draw current?)

My neighbours astra started doing the same thing with the onset of the cold mornings, it would turn over but not start, if we bumped started it or started it using a set of jump leads it was ok from then onwards and would start first time every time all day, only not to start the next morning :( on his car it turned out to be a duff cell on the battery combined with a failing alternator, once both these were replaced it's been fine and start all the time :(

53 plate implies car is only around 1 year old. Unlikely that the battery gives trouble this early, but surely the fault will be covered by warranty?

I read elsewhere on the forum about the death of the new all singing and danceing high output batteries! maybe it's another one to add to the list?
