Guest gritrash Posted January 17, 2005 Report Posted January 17, 2005 the dunlop front tyres on my 130ps gal don't look like they'll make 20k. That's pathetic. The Michelins on the front (and rear) of mine have done well over 20k and are nowhere near needing replacement.yes, the fastest wear i have had on a set of tyres. Ever. Apart from a 1976 Ford Escort 1100 pop which had a set of remoulds and wonky tracking. Quote

The rear two may be good for another 5,000 Quote

Guest T120 Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 JUST BEEN TALKING TO MY FRIENDS AT THE BEST TYRE DEPOT AROUND HERE. IT WAS RECOMENDED AS IT HAS A PERPOSE BUILT MOTORCYCLE TYRE FITTING AND BALANCING BAY, BUT THEY ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE WHEN IT COMES TO KNOLEDGE OF TYRES. THEY TOLD ME THAT:-THE REINFORCING IS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TYRE LOADING. :( IT IS TO DO WITH THE TYRE BEAD, AND MPV'S NEED REINFORCED TYRES. HOPE THIS CLEARS UP THE THE DISCUSSION EARLIER ABOUT PUTTING TYRES WITH THE SAME LOADING ON BUT NOT REINFORCED THEREFORE ENDANGERING THE VEHICAL AND EVERBODY WHO TRAVELS IN IT. Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Firstly - Galman - 29k on fronts and still legal... Do you actually use the torque of your TDi lol... Secondly - T120, Reinforced tyres have a higher load rating - just look at the numbers on the sidewall, also as the sidewall is stiffer - they also exhibit much quicker steering responses under load, although at the sacrifice of some noise/comfort.. Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Taken from Dunlops site..Reinforced: a marking which is added adjacent to the tyre size marking to indicate that the tyre has a higher load carrying capacity than the standard tyre. The principal application of "reinforced" type tyres is on vans and light trucks but they are also fitted to certain estate cars and caravans. from etyre....What does RNF mean?RNF indicates that the tyre is reinforced. Reinforced tyres are mostly fitted on to small / light vans, people carriers and some 4X4 vehicles and estate cars. More recently, car manufactures such as Audi, Renault and Saab have been using a new type of reinforced tyre. These tyres are high-performance, low profile tyres and come as original equipment on high-performance cars. The extra load carrying capability gives these tyres more rigidity, enhancing the road holding. Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Thankyou VR6 - I rest my case lol Mike Quote
shefki Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I think, looking at the condition of the tyres, i'll be looking for some new ones in about 5000 miles. A mate of mine drives a Kia Sedona Exec with Full leather, all the toys etc etc etc and it weighs in at just over 2.5tonnes. The car is an Auto with TINY 15" rims fitted to his car and the fact that the thing feels like it's falling over each time he enteres a corner worries me. Tyre squeel to make Kojak fell out done in car parks. Now for the really funny bit. Town driven for 8000 miles and his fronts are shot. He may have saved Quote
Guest paule230 Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 have got firestones on the front of my galaxy and these are reinforced ,44 pound each all in from local tyre fitter in medway, Where abouts in Meday? I live in Lordswood :) Quote
Guest MartinSurfer Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Ok, this will make some of you laugh - I replaced the fronts at 24,000, but paid.....can't make my fingers type it....paid...... Quote
Another?Maybe! Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 MartinSurfer Kwikfit do a pricematch deal although they don't seem to advertise it very much (or they did when I had 2 fronts from them last year) Sounds like you have paid their list price whereas if you quote lower prices obtained from other tyre retailers they will match. I had 2 2020s from them for just over Quote
Guest technician Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 codfly where abouts in medway did you get your tyres.... i live in gillingham. mike  Quote
galaxychap Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 i have found kwik fit to be resonable i have just paid Quote

delboyt Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 kwik rip i recon look for a local independent fitteri use cabot tyres bristol they supply tyers to all fitting centres& they are a small family outfit but are cheap asthey do a quick turaround & they don'tspend on fancy furnishig's in their fitting shop keeps the price down4 firestone reinforced tyres fitted balanced etc Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 Kwik Fit were the cheapest place for tyres when I last wanted some! the majority of garages round here (northampton) couldnt get close yet alone match them! I rang them up twice while in other garages to prove the price they had given and even went back to get it in writing to make sure of the price! I watch the fitters throughout the job and was asked by one of them if I knew the correct torque rateing for the bolts, and was told to bring it back in in a couple days to get them checked again to make sure they were ok  they didnt even crease the sills  so there are a few good fitters out there that work or worked for Kwik Fit, wasnt there Andy :D I used to use the on a regular basis when I had my XR4X4 as they were the cheapest place around for Firestone's, I used to go through a set at 8/9000 miles! mainly due to the way the suspension was set up with an extreme amount of toe in and castor it would wear the inner edges tyres off B) Quote
