Guest MATT Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Hi,the aircon is not cooling the inside of the vehicle, not worrying now as it is winter but with the hottest summer predicted in 2005 how much does it cost to get it re-gassed? Thanks. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 If your AC is not working and you have lost the gas? dont run it! although on the later models there is a pressure switch that wont allow the compressor to run if the pressure drops! on earlier models you could do some damage to the compresssor!if the gas has escaped the other reason for it not working could be that its to cold for the AC to work! if the ambient temperature drops below a certain limit then the AC cuts out due to the chance of the evaporator freezing up! the cost of recharges vary but it's best to find out why the gas has escaped first and get that fixed before regasing the system also there is an acceptable leakage amount over a period of time! so that could explain the loss of gas? Guest MATT Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 Its just over 3 years old, and the light on the switch indicates that it wants regasing (according to the manual) so it most likly wants re-gasing, its a 2001 TDI Auto. do you think it will be cheaper in the winter to have it done or should i wait and see if its the ambiant temp? Thanks Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 If it needs re-gassing, get it done ASAP. There should be no difference in cost between summer and winter but you need to keep the compressor lubricated. Quote
Guest MATT Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 will do Ivor, thanks for the help. :D :D :D  :D :D :D Quote
davec Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 i think it says in the handbook to run it once a month anyway to keep the compressor from sticking so its prob better to get it done save an expensive problem later it cost my friend 1200 to get his aircon fixed Quote
