After parking the Gal having driven round toys r us car park for about 10 mins i noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet and the smell of diesel, had a quick look under the bonnet but couldn't see anything. I drove home and opened the bonnet again and took of the engine and battery cover, had a good look but could see no sign of the leak and no smoke or smell this time.

Anybody had any similar things happen.

I'm so glad I dont have TDI :D the constant worrying could put you into an early grave!

is the engine meant to sound that rough!

has the garage stuck the right oil in the engine!

more's to the point have they overfilled it!

is the aux heater working!

what the hells that whineing noise and all that smoke doing pouring out from

under the rear of the car!

is the guy next to me in the traffic queue getting a higher MPG figure than me!

is it true that all new TDI's come with a prescription for Valium and Viagra

Is the engine meant to sound that rough? Whats a coilpak?

Why am I only getting 12 mpg?

What was that bang? I thought it had a camchain!

How can I convert this lump to LPG?

Why is it worth so little?

answers....

no it doesnt sound rough :D coil pack is the thing that provides the energy for the spark plugs :D 195K and only replaced the coil pack once and that was by choice! :D

what garage dont use them unless I have to :D

aux heater.....N/A

that whineing noise behind me is a TDI owner moaning that diesels the same price a petrol

cam chain....... two of them if you dont mind

very easily if you have the time and the money? and then you can reap the

reward of 39.9p per litre :D and rejoice in the fact that your not kicking out

loads of crap out of your tail pipe into the enviroment :D

because not many pensioners can afford to run one where as they get a grant to top their pension for running TDI :D

And the funny thing??? Depending on the year - VR6 more than likely has an aux heater, but it's prob not working, as the engine draws so much fuel through the pipes, there is none left for the heater!!!

IIRC there was only a couple of years the VR6 possibly had the aux heater fitted 98 to 2000? never seen one on a VR6 although I have seen a couple of 2.3's with it fitted! both UK spec cars with the timer control on the digital clock

If there are controls on the digital clock doesn't that make it the rare booster heater option (with extra battery under drivers seat and option to warm the car before you get up in the morning) and not the common or garden aux heater to heat up the cold diesel engine

It does but on the VR6's IIRC the aux heater was fitted to boost the heating of the coolant as it was found that due to both heater system's the rear unit was drawing to much heat and insufficient heat was being provided to the front of the vehicle in cold weather! this was over come by fitting a valve into the pipes to the rear heater unit that only allowed the hot coolant through when the rear unit was switched on and heat was called for

and yes both the 2.3's I saw did have the secondary battery fitted under the drivers seat, both vehicles also had heated seats, front screens and washer jets so the load needed to power all that lot would need the second battery!
