This is my first post on this list so go easy on me.

With regards to alloy wheel fitments, I am wanting to replace the standard Carat alloys.

I have tried a few of the local Wheel and tyre dealers and had a variety of answers with regards to tyre size and offset .

So far I think I am going to go with a 17" wheel as the tyres seem to be cheaper and more readily available. I quite like the Audi RS6 5 spoke replicas . Any other suggestions of wheels ( pref. with a picture of the alloys fitted to a Alhambra/ Sharan would be appreciated).

But the main Issue is tyre size, my Sharan is currently fitted with 15" Carat alloys with 205/60/15 tyres. But I have been advised to fit from a 205/45/17 to a 225/45/17 and even 235/40/17 . what would you guys recommend , bearing in mind the Sharan is an every day runner for me so it can't be to extreme.

Thanks

What do you want - good handling or comfort? The smaller (less deep) the tyre sidewall, the firmer the ride will be. 17inch wheels will give you a dramatic change from 15's.

It is mainly for looks (spot the "old boy" racer) but I wouldn't mind a slightly firmer ride and a little less body roll.

I just noticed Purple perils galaxy, and I really like those wheels :)

Yes, we have a taxi round here with some alloys with very slender spokes and thin rim, running on liquorice-thin sidewalled tyres. Can't remember if it's Galaxy or Alhambra; must remember to take my camera every time I go out!

You are not going to reduce body roll by just upping the size of the rims! the only way to that is to stiffen the suspension and lower the ride hieght some what!

there are a couple of ways to do this, either by fitting a set of uprated lowering springs or by replacing the suspension system totally with a set of matching springs and shocks

depending on how low you go depends on the route you take? also on your budget?

50/60mm springs only

75mm+ fully adjustable coil over suspension :D

As for the rims there are few other manufacturers rims you could look at! a few Merc's (E/C/S CLASSE, SL, SLK, CLK, 190, 300/320CE-24, 500E) have the same PCD as the Sharan as do some of the Audi's(A4, A6, A8, S2, S4, S6) the VW Passat and T4 Transporter!

all the above list have a PCD of 5X112

Old Galaxy had standard 16" rims and new has standard 17" rims, absolutly no difference in handling, body roll, road noise etc. just the look, I suppose the main difference will be the cost to replace tyres when they wear out :) Do Sharan's really only have 15"" rims as standard?
