Guest Russell Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Help. I have a problem with my autobox. The only way I can describe it is a cattle grid effect. It happens mainly at 30 and 50mph on a level road where I am only just touching the accelerator pedal (really low load). I get a knocking sound and the revs increase and drop by about 200rpm. The way I would describe it is like the 'box isn't sure which gear to select or if it should be slipping the clutch or not, if you see what I mean. In all other conditions the 'box is great, no slipping, smooth changes etc. When the fault happens it can be corrected by increasing or decreasing pressure on the pedal by a small amount. Could it be a 'box sensor or accelerator potentiometer? Any help apprecited. Great diagram of the autobox posted by the way. Quote
johnb80 Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Whilst I have not experienced it on a Gal I have had it on a 2.8 24v Ultima. It's well documented on the scorpio website and one of the causes was the MAF. On the Scorpio cleaning it with carb cleaner was sufficient to completely cure it. The effect is caused by the torque converter locking and then unlocking straight away. Hope this helps. Regards - JB Quote
Guest Russell Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Thanks John I'll give it a go. I've had a look at that site and it's full of good info. Quote
