Went to collect my new rear wiper for my Galaxy TDI

 

So thought i would get some oil to top up when i eventually need to!

 

So asked for a 1 litre bottle and was presented with Ford Formula E SAE5-30

 

"Sorry but thats not the right oil for a Galaxy TDI" Should be Formula SD SAE 5-40

 

Well was told by the parts department staff that Formula E is what we use on all the Diesels and Petrol vehicles that come here.

 

So asked them to check on computer and they have ordered me some Formula SD which i have been told they only have at ther Bristol depot

 

So has the Spec for 2003 TDI Diesel Gals changed or is the Ford Main dealer wrong

 

If any one knows better let me know so i can put the Ford Agents concerned to Shame on this great forum site

If they have put thst in your Tdi, I'd be getting it dropped NOW, and seeking legal advice.. The PD motor put extreme stress on the oil film between the cam and the injectoor - and only the PD spec oil is approved... If you have had it serviced there bofore.... then major damage may be waiting to happen, I know of a couple of PD's tht have literally eaten cams after being used woth the wrong oil, and it ain't cheap to repair the damage.

Recently needed oil top up whilst away from home and visited Ford garage in Stirling for a litre. They had the right stuff in the workshop in bulk (they showed my the barrel), but none available in retail packaging. Offered me the 5-30 stuff!

 

Fortunately, next door was VW dealer, however they wanted

Have you tried Reg Vardy on Cumbernauld Road for your oil?

 

I get mine from them and they sell it in the 5litre tubs fairly cheap.
