Hi all am new here but must have spent the best part of today searching through these forums and could not find a exact match to my cars prob so thought why not join and post here myself.

So here goes, understand it's quite common for the Tdi's to loose power due to faulty MAF which i have already replaced so tried all vaccum hose's etc to and from turbo unit but to no avail still, also payed for mobile elecy bloke to come out to read any codes if any and take car up road whilst problem occurs but still no idea, what i should have said at the start is that it pulls brill up to approx 65-70 in 1-2-3 gears respectivly(excuse speeling) but after that will every few hundred yards will just hit a brickwall and will not pull any longer, now this is the part where i think my differs from the other post on here if i let go of the accelerator complety for a split second i.e as fast as i can with my foot it will pick up again for another few hundreds yards, now this goes on untill the car reaches speeds of approx 110+ but having to press peddle let go then press again etc etc etc

Now my local fraud dealer have asked for aprrox

Throttle potentiometer? (not an instruction, a suggestion of a possibly defective part!)

same again i would think that its a dead spot within the peddle potentiometer it would show up on a dealer system check but not always show up on your mobile mech because he is only lighly to have a general code reader which is obd 1 or 2 and that will only pull up emmisions related faults

Thanks you the replys and am interested in the throttle poston thingy lol,

but 1 question would that only make a difference at a certain rev i.e 2500rpm or could it be just random as have tried with throttle in various postions and to no avail.

oh and in response to GSM I live in swindon Wilts but i am willing to travel rather than line the pockets of my local fraud dealer as would proberbly cost me less to drive the length of the country anyways being diesel and all

Thanks again for your replys and appreicate your advice!

IIRC the throttle pot is a dual track device so I wouldnt think it likely - IMO the ECU is limiting power - a full diagnostic "should" show why - I would take up GSMguy's offer

pumping the throttle may just be "pushing" the software into a temporary acceleration mode.

I wonder if it could be a boost pressure sensor fault

Did this fault gradually appear or was it sudden?

to be honest have owned the for approx 8 months and has done it sinse then so could'nt really say

Hi

Had exactly the same problem and it was the mounting for the vacume pipe on the big plastic pipe which goes from the inlet to the intercooler which had snapped off. Next to the battery and in front of the fuel filter ther should be two vacume pipes coming off, one from a sensor and the other to the turbo waste gate. It had me fooled for ages as the snapped off mounting just looked like a rivet and the vacume pipe was dangling out off site at the side off the battery. Interesting how lifting the throttle and putting it back down restores power, but what a pain in the ass when towing with a caravan on a motorway hill!!!!! Hope this helps

Right bit of an update........ been reading through the haynes manual etc etc to no avail!! lol not that i expected otherwise but can only try..... well have been re-reading the forums and saw mentioned something on a wastegate overhaul so thought well i'll have a look but lack in confidence to actually remove wastegate/turbocharger so my question is.....should i notice any difference if i dissconnect the air hose going to the wastegate as i tried this as an experiment and the car still performed the same where it lacks in power then tried again with hose back on....and performed slightly better intially (bout 2miles lolol) but is this right or wrong if wrong can i remove the wastegate without moving the turbo? and if i have to remove the turbo how long should i expect to be under the bonnet?

many thanks in advance for all your valuble information!

Your problem sounds like mine! The turbo wastegate can be tested. Just find a length of suitable pipe and push one end on the vac. module and suck. The lever should be seen to move about 10mm then return when you run out of breath! The whole turbo needs to come off for a wastegate overhaul, about 3 hours- no special tools needed though a ramp or pit makes it easier. Most of the work is from under the car
