Guest Trevor Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Hi All, Am I the only person out their that thinks the 17in 5 spoke alloys sold on the ford w/site are far better looking than the normal Ghia wheels and they are only Quote

Guest Trevor Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 Hi Mike, It depends on what tyre you go for a set of 4 Ventus 205/50 zr17 tyres cost me Quote
rwtomkins Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I agree the standard Ghia alloys are not especially nice and I'd be interested in something better-looking. Anyone else got any suggestions? Quote
MrT Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I actually quite like the Galaxy 6 spoke alloys. I am not convinced that the enhanced cornering properties of the lower profile tyres on the 17" wheels outweigh the comfort and ride benefits of the 16" wheels. Some insurance companies like to charge you more if you put different alloys on as they say it makes the car more desirable to to thieves. Changing from Ford 16 to Ford 17 alloys should not make a difference as they are a standard option on new vehicles. Quote
Dave-G Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 B) I think the 5 spoke alloys fitted to the slighly older model are about the best looking "supplied as standard" wheel ford have ever used, and should have been retained, even though they're only 16" :( Quote
Guest blatters Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Have you noticed that the latest 'lookalike' alloy Ghia 16" wheels are not as nice as the 53 plate and earlier ones? Not much of an enhancement if you ask me? Also, Autoexpress carried an article about a Focus driver whose chrome trim on the Ghia tailgate had caused a chemical reaction and started the tailgate rusting. When they contacted Ford they said it was a known problem and there was nothing they would do about it because the anti-perforation warranty was (1) from the inside out only and (2) it was not yet perforated anyway!! So I am quite glad I've not got the latest '04 Galaxy with the chrome stuff all over it. Sorry to any '04 owners. :( Regards, Blatters B) Quote
MrT Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 The chrome trim (radiator grills, bonnet front, rear hatch, foglamps etc) on the 04 Galaxy is all "silver" coated plastic so it won't rust. Quote
Guest blatters Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 The chrome trim (radiator grills, bonnet front, rear hatch, foglamps etc) on the 04 Galaxy is all "silver" coated plastic so it won't rust. A bet that will last a long time? Blatters :( Quote
MrT Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 If it doens't last, replace it, the chrome trim itself only costs a few Quote

Guest blatters Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 vr6galaxy, Got to disagree M8 - I'm rather pleased that the latest Galaxy 'facelift' limited itself to some sticky-back imitation plastic lookalike chrome and less impressive Ghia alloys.Anything too swish would have left my '53' plate beauty feeling a little forlorn. But me & my Gal are feeling fine right now. Those silver insert front fog lamp surrounds look ok on silver cars but they're not so great on other colours like pepper red etc.Regards to all the latest Galaxy owners  Blatters Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 If you look what VW did to the Sharan for its facelift ..... revamped rear lights ..... , Those VW rear lights look gross! At least the Galaxy chrome bits are tasteful. They don't really stand out on a silver car, and IMHO with silver, I prefer the black foglamp surrounds. Quote
MrT Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 I find on a black car that the silver trim looks really good and does not look like cheap plastic. I had the original black trim and at the front it was tatty from stone chips. I bought the new trim and radiator grilles and the silver "mouth" is a definate improvement. If the silver parts do deteriorate with age, I will only need to buy these rather than the grilles again.Galaxy Chrome Upgrade I agree that the newer rear lights and alloys look worse than the earlier facelifted models. Guest blatters Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 Mr T Two things: 1. Thanks for the web link - good site, so much appreciated;2. In black, must admit the silver front lamp inserts look good and the sticky chrome stuff is pretty good. So silver and black cars are OK with it. Blatters  PS. How do you keep that black car clean? Quote
MrT Posted December 24, 2004 Report Posted December 24, 2004 PS. How do you keep that black car clean? 1. Drive the wife's Fiesta in mucky conditions.2. With difficulty.3. Mudflaps make a real difference. Quote

Drive the wife's Fiesta in mucky conditions. It's funny that. We must all do the same - my wife's Peugeot 206 is my first choice too! Have a good holiday break & New Year. Blatters  Quote
