Well went to Halfords to get new 16 inch wiper blade for my 2003 galaxy and they are not listed on there on shelf cats, So asked at service desk and have been told the blades they sell will not fit. So now have ordered one from Ford main dealer

Any one had this prob before ??

Halfords & wiper blades - you never use these two terms in the same breath!

My wife's Peugeot 206 - made the mistake of thinking that Halfords could supply the blades. Wrong. The blades in the catelogue were incorrect. So took them back. They told me that I should try the Bosch ones rather than their own brand. So I took the Bosch ones home. Mistake. Didn't fit either! Took them back to be told that Halfords don't have the right ones in stock for the 206. Thanks guys. I only live 20mls from their store.

So, like you, I realised the error of my ways and took a 17mile journey in the other direction to the Peugeot dealer in Galashiels, Scottish Borders. They supplied the right ones.

You see, it occurs to me that Halfords are OK on things like chamois leather and sponges but that's where the technical skills seem to run out. A bit like asking the 'lad' in Homebase how you join up an imperial copper pipe to a metric one - forget it! No, hang on, if you want your Galaxy dressed up like a dog's dinner in bodykit or a 200 watt xbass that will shake the city streets then this may be the place to go.

And when they say 'universal fitting' that means in the real world 'won't fit any car properly'.

Having said that, there is another thread out there (rather wierdly called 'air con on / off - I think Fred, MM, GSM or Ivory hijacked it) that gives details of what seems a top brand on-line supplier of premium wiper blades. If those boys have given it a link then it may be worth checking out.

Thanks for giving me my moment to warn the world. I feel better for it.

Having a MK1 I dont have a problem with getting wiper blades from Halfords, I find reading the fitting list on the box helps! if it says tO fit Digi clock versions I'm ok, if it says to fit ugly oval clock versions then I dont bother

I bought a pair of front brake disks for a Vauxhall Astra from Hellfrauds over two years ago. They were the ones listed in the applications chart and on their parts computer but on fitting were clearly the wrong size.

So I took the time to find the correct size and what other Vauxhalls they were fitted to, and they exchanged them for the right part, no problems there. They even notified head office of the problem.

But two years later and the applications chart and PC are still showing the wrong ones.....

Also no power steering belt is shown for the same car, yet the same engine/pump is fitted to three other cars in the Vauxhall range and for two of them they stock a belt that fits......

Best bet is to avoid Hellfrauds, except perhaps for screenwash and their own-brand lifetime warranty tools.

Strange - last year I bought from my local Halfords a set of Bosch front blades for my facelifted model and they fitted straight out of the box; a rear wiper also purchased there fitted too (OK so it misses the top of the screen, but whose replacement blade doesn't?)
