Guest Pete C Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Hi,I have a problem with my wife's '97 2.3 galaxy ghia. When it has been very cold overnight (with a hard frost) there is an overwhelming smell of exhaust/petrol in the cabin and around the car after startup its so bad you are unable to sit in the car. This continues for some time (10-15 minutes) after which it disappears. This only happens when it is really cold and the car has been stood overnight. On normal days it's fine.Could something be freezing up? Any ideas? All suggestions welcome. Quote
shelbournes Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I have exactly the same problemI have an nreg 2.0li galaxy did you have any answer for your problem...I wondered did you have black grime in the exhaust . This is probably due to a coolant temperature senser that is found just underneath the thermostat housing..I have cured most of the exhaust fume problem by changing it.. Please email me on shelbournes@arsenalfc.net if you had any other answers to your problem Quote

My wifes Ultima 2.3 estate had this problem. I found it to be a cracked exhaust manifold, the crack closes up when it warms up. Well known problem on Ultima's with the 2.3, I assume that the manifold on the Gal is the same. Hope this helps. Regards - John Quote
