buford_t_justice Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 I'm interested in "investing" in a VAG-COM system and would like to canvass your experiences/opinions etc..... For example: (1) Where did you get your system from? ;(2) Has it met your expectations? ;(3) Would you do anything different if you could buy one again? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 Ello.... do I need to post... lol Anyway - got mine from www.skpang.com got the HEX-PRO usb/serial/dongle job.. No need to pay to unlock the VAG-COM!! Anyway, first scan (easy to install and setup on lappy - get yourself a nice hot cuppa in that unused cup holder!) First scan gave me: Over pressure readings on all 4 injectors... Well it is chipped lol.. Over torque signal... See above! Intermittent inplausible signal from brake pedal switch - now fixed with a bit of WD40! Aux heater - Glowplug open circuit - now on order with VW ( Quote
buford_t_justice Posted December 9, 2004 Author Report Posted December 9, 2004 So let me see..........just the one user of VAG-COM on here. Is that it? Quote
andyr75 Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 I eventually bought a genuine serial / dongle lead from Ross-Tech in USA (Serial Hex think it was!).I decided to get it from there as for the same price as UK I got a dongle version(no registration) instead of a lead that required VAG-COM to be registered.(Cant comment on the cheap leads??) I bought it originally to enable cruise control after I fitted the cruise stalk. I did have a problem with connecting to the car with my laptop (ended up borrowing one to start with??) but the latest release of VAG-COM cured the problem. Since using it I have found a few problems which I have managed to cure (alarm horn not working - lead was unplugged on the horn!!).I did not realise it was not working but running the output tests revealed this.A couple of intermittant probs showed up but have not reappeared since clearing the codes. I think over the time I intend having a galaxy the lead will more than pay for itself. One thing to watch tho if ordering from the USA - I could not fault delivery - 3 days in all but 2 weeks later ended up with a bill from Fed-Ex for the import tax :( All in all very pleased. GSMGuy - The trip computer sounds interesting - is it an easy job?? Andy Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Apparently so - same as the cruise... Mike Quote

Is it compatible with ACP bus (audio control) to read datas ?ACP is 9600 9N1 !Is somebody already working on ACP bus ?On steering wheel audio controls ? Quote
MrT Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 On my Galaxy the audio is not connected to the management system (except security). Quote
GSMGuy Posted December 15, 2004 Report Posted December 15, 2004 Audio isn't connected on my Gal either - but on Our A4 Tdi130 (2001) You can run full diagnostics on the head unit and the changer - test all the speakers, illumination and eject/change the disc etc.. Mike Quote
buford_t_justice Posted December 16, 2004 Author Report Posted December 16, 2004 How much import tax were you charged? Quote
buford_t_justice Posted December 25, 2004 Author Report Posted December 25, 2004 I've now managed to get my hands on a VAG-COM cable and able to use the full registered version of the software. I can read fault codes no problem but what about its other features? I've read on other websites about adjustments to central locking, improved accuracy for average MPG, servicing etc... Has anybody been able to make any useful modifications? (not including activating c/c) Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 Was your Vag-com a Christmas present?? Quote
buford_t_justice Posted December 26, 2004 Author Report Posted December 26, 2004 Indeed, although try telling that to 'er indoors. She refers to it as a waste of money! What do women know!! Quote
