ferguscawley Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Hi all I am new to this forum. I have recently bought a 97 VW Sharan (I know I know its not a Galaxy but its almost the same  ) and am having a problem with the interior lights. The lights work when the overhead switch is switched to either 'always on' mode or 'door open'mode. Thing is, they never go off when car is started when in 'door open' mode. They also stay on when the door is closed. As a result, I have to leave the switch in the 'off' position and manually turn it on when I get into the car so the kids can find their way in. From what I have already read on this forum, the 4 door switches are wired in parallel, so even if one failed, opening/closing any of the other 3 doors should make the light go on/off. What puzzles me is why the light will come on (and stay on) even with all 4 doors closed. Has anyone come across this before ?. ANy help or hints that you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ferg Quote
Guest fredt Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Being wired in parallel means that if one door switch goes U/S the others wont overide it, if the duff switch is telling the system that it's still open, then no matter how hard you slam the other doors the lights will still stay on  pop down the dealers or your nearest GF&S and get a couple of switches then change them one at a time in turn, replaceing the first switch with a new one and shutting the doors to see if that cure the problem? if not move onto the next one and so on till the lights go off ;) if they dont ! then it's another problem also check that the rubber boots are on the switches and if they are they are not split and allowing moisture into the switch and shorting it out?
