Guest TimVS Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 HI all, new to this forum, and new to Galaxys  Just brought the new Thunderbirds movie on DVD to keep the boys happy on our imminent European trip. Although it plays perfectly well on the home DVD player, it only plays in black and white on the Galaxy player, with a thick black line across the bottom of both headrest screens. We have changed the (Thunderbirds) DVD twice, same problem, other DVDs work fine in the player. The Galaxy is 6 months old, all original equipment. Not sure of the make of DVD player Ford use, could find out. In the meantime, any ideas where we should be going with this? Thanks all, T Quote
GSMGuy Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Just a thought... It is a Region 2 PAL DVD isn't it? Mike Quote
NikpV Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 If its not PAL can you switch output to RGB (worked for me on a ntsc disc in household dvd player) Quote
Davetheref Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 The DVD unit is a Visteon MB-8000. There are lots of threads already about these wonderful units. ;) Main thing is that you can't hack them and also there isn't alot of functions to play around with either.I have lots of copied DVD's (all legal of course as they are backups for me) and some play ok and others will not i.e. comes out black and white etc. Sounds like you have a proper copy though so interesting if it is a region 2 and not playing properly. Guest TimVS Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Thanks all for your prompt replies: 1) The unit is indeed an MB-8000. Beggars can't be choosers, I guess  2) The DVD is an original copy. Brought at WH Smiths in the UK 3) Not sure about the region. The serial no. on the disc is 10178/ST/G7/R1. Does this mean it's a region 1 disc? Which might explain the problem. In which case, why are Smith's selling region 1 and not region 2 discs. However, as I said before, it works fine in the home player ;) 4) There doesn't seem to be a setting to change output to RGB. It doesn't seem you can do much with this unit apart from change the screen size! Cheers, T Quote
Davetheref Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Hi again Tim Strange about the DVD especially if it came form Smiths, should be R2. You can normally tell if its a Region 2 disk by the Certificate rating on it i.e. for UK 15, pg12, 18 etc. and for US region 1 they have R, pg13 and so on. Is your home DVD player multi region? Never had a R2 disk here, yet, that doesn't play correctly on the unit. As I mentioned earlier, its only copied disks I've had trouble with.Good luck Dave Quote
Guest TimVS Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Hi Dave, It's definitely a Region 2 disc, I've now established. Also, every other DVD we own appears to work fine in the player. We're going back to Ford in a couple of days to get them to take us right through the system, make absolutely sure we are doing everything right, then I guess it'll be on to Universal Studios! I think its going to turn out to be just 'one of those things' with no solution, but it's a bit hard on the boys as it's their favourite at the mo'. Ah well, it was much simpler when we all had to play I-SPY  Quote
bangormaine Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 can anyone tell me if i could play a DVD - RW with a recording of a TV programme made on a standard DVD recorder in this format or is the unit only capable of playing +R or -R format thanks for any help Quote
Davetheref Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I should imagine that -RW would work in the same way as -R. That is, either they will work normally or come out in black and white. It always seems a bit hit and miss to whether copied DVD's work properly at all on this unit. Quote
