Guest j_mchattie Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Cheers Ivor, this thread has been a 2 person conversation!Think i may do the ECU reset now, so that it has time to learn the new config. Theres no need to run on old settings anymore, ill just tell it the current situation instead. Thanks again Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Well, the ECU reset didnt do anything. Except allow me to see the throttle body vac hose they had left off. Stalling now fixed, but steamy exhaust is not. I still get a few bubbles coming up through the expansion tank. Do i dare take the car back? Or is a few bubble normal? The rad hose pressure is too high I think, is there anyway i can check this out? The hoses too and from the radiator seem pretty solid to touch until they cool down - when they go normal. I have grabbed one as the fan cut in, and the hose went soft again as the engine cooled a bit (this is normal i know, but how hard should the hoses feel?) Thanks James Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I took the car to ford, who told me to diagnose the car would mean a complete engine strip down - costing around Quote
Guest j_mchattie Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Before replacing the gasket, the garage replaced the thermostat. Which they say has fixed the problem. Yes, it has stopped the bubbles from entering the expansion tank. But the hose pressure is still high - i think. Can someone with a mondeo please feel the top hose when the engine is nice and hot - and tell me how firm it feels? I know its difficult to describe, but PLEASE! this has gone on too long. Ive been told the coolant system pressure should be anything upto 15 psi - is there a pressure tester i can buy? Thanks James Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 You should be able to get the rad cap pressure tested for free at a local garage - there is a special thing they put it on and pump up, to see at what pressure the spring allows it to open. This will tell you at what pressure your car's system is running. Sounds like you are still having a few problems.....Similarly the garage should be able to connect something up to your car's cooling system to increase the pressure in the system to check for leaks - if the head gasket is still suspect, then they should do this for you for free as part of the investigations into the problems that you are experiencing. Guest j_mchattie Posted January 15, 2005 Report Posted January 15, 2005 I have bought a new cap. When the temp gets high (just before the fan cuts in) the top hose is quite firm - i can push the side of the pipe in, but i cant collapse the pipe, not even half way. And when the fan cuts in the pressure partially leaves the pipe. It may be completely normal - and that if the pressure wasnt normal then the cap would release some. The problem is, i dont know how a normal one feels! If i knew that, i could answer my own questions in a second. I suppose the important thing is that the bubbles have stopped. Not sure why changing the thermostat would do that, but it appears to have done. Thanks Quote
