Guest j_mchattie Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 There have been many posts about getting the best economy from certain cars. Heres another. Ford Mondeo LX MK1 93 1.8 Zetec-EFI with Production Spoiler, 148k miles (forget i told you that!) What is the best speed to drive at for economy? Of course in the book it gives 56mph as the best figure (of the two listed!), but this is only because it is a round figure in KPH. There must be a BEST speed to drive at, not just because its the best figure printed of the two.Surely there is a huge range of figure, or a chart that ford have made (there must be one for the ECU to work out the crazy stuff it does). Thanks everyone Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 Hard to figure it out - engine revs for maximum torque in top gear - but then you have to consider wind resistance etc. Probably more economical at 45 mph than 56, but do you want to travel that slow as the savings will be marginal? Air resistance/drag increases with the square of your speed, but it is not the only force that needs to be overcome by "wasted" fuel. Quote
Guest fredt Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 Best speed for economy is PARKED    Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 ...not with the engine running - using all that lpg and not going anywhere, fred? ..and by the way, when they're parked, the TDI is just as quick as a VR6  Quote
