chromedome Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Hi I've been reading through the forum about the rear wiper missing the top part of the screen. My question is, where can I get a factory fit wiper blade from as my local Ford dealer only stocks/lists normal blades. Should I try VW? Thanks. Quote
chromedome Posted November 30, 2004 Author Report Posted November 30, 2004 Please, does anybody know where I can get an original fit rear wiper? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 ...from the factory. If the dealers don't sell it, then it is not available. My replacement rear wiper also misses the top part of the rear screen, and trying to bend it hasn't made it any better. Have to say that it doesn't really bother me, but maybe I'll try to make my own out of wood one day.... ;) Quote
chromedome Posted December 3, 2004 Author Report Posted December 3, 2004 Problem solved. Went to VW's, traitor!!, and they specify a 380mm wiper blade not a 400mm. Stuck a 380mm on and it now wipes the same size area all over. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 lol, problem of the top not getting wiped, buy not trying to wipe the top! Whoever came up with that should go work for Microsoft on tech support or get a job as a physiotherapist! Quote
Lyle Waters Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 While on the topic of rear win/wash, can you adjust the water spray as mine just kinda splurges and dont hit the rear screen.. the pressure is there, can soak a cat @ 20 meters with the wiper flap removed.. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 can soak a cat @ 20 meters with the wiper flap removed.. Would you like to park yours outside my house at night? I keep finding paw prints across my roof and down the windscreen when I get in to drive to work :) Quote
Guest Idris Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I have a similar issue where my rear blade misses both top and bottom :( I thought it was just the blade knackered so replaced it to get the same results. It would appear that the spring within the arm just isn't forcing the blade against the glass anymore. Are there are cheap and easy solutions that are known, or do I just have to either put a new spring in or get a new wiper arm? All info appreciated  thanks Quote
tim-spam Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I've had the same problem on my Alhambra - it had a 14" Bosch blade on and missed top and bottom of screen. Looking at it, it appears that the latest Bosch wiper blades are not sufficiently flexible at the ends to follow the curvature of the screen. I've solved the problem by buying a Halford's branded blade, which is far more flexible at the ends. This only missed a very narrow strip at the top. This ia easily fixed by pulling the rubber insert fron the carrier, reversing the spring steel inserts and reassembling - now works perfectly. Hope this helps, Tim Quote

Topbloke Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 i used to "modify" the rear wipper blade/arm on the vectra estates i don't know if the gals are the same set up i will have a look and let you folks know Quote
Topbloke Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 further to my previous post i just had a quick look at the set up and its the same as the vectra's so here go's. remove the rear arm complete, on the reverse of the arm their is a spring and a metal clip (sorry best description i can think off) remove the clip and place this in a vice tighten the vice so that the ends of the clip are nearer together (doe's this make sense) but do not go to mad, reconnect the clip onto the arm and then connect the sping, if you have to stretch the spring to get it on all the better, reconnect the arm to the motor, reset at the correct angle at give it a whirl . This was used as a fix as i said previously on the vectras what it doe's is increase the pressure of the arm on the rear screen . If i get a chance over the weekend i will try to take some photo's and then see if i can get them on here ! Quote
Jemble Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 I've also found that reversing the metal stiffeners in the wiper blade does the trick. Makes the blade curve the other way so it matches the curve of the glass. Takes only a few minutes to do. Quote
tim-spam Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Just a quick follow-up. My rear wiper blade from Halfords with the springs reversed didn't work perfectly for very long, so I went to VW and bought a genuine Sharan rear wiper blade for around a fiver. Now this does work perfectly, and wipes about as much of the rear window as possible. Well pleased. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i must say that wipers that wehave bought from halfords before havent lasted very long..the rubber strip came away!! might be cheaper but never again. cant even blame it on hubby as the guy from halfords fitted them. Quote
gazza007 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Just put a 16" Bosch Super + on the back, works a treat Quote
