There's one on e-bay "Ford Galaxy 1.9TDi PD Diesel Chip"

It says simple fitting and claims to boost HP from 115 to 140

Worth doing, or more trouble than it is worth?

I think its funny how all these TDI drivers rant on about their MPG figures yet are not happy with their BHP figures :D knowing the output of the car before they bought it and knowing there are higher output ones out there they still buy the low output version then shell out on all these snake oil add on's then moan like crazy when their MPG figures drop! :D they dont seem to realise that the extra power has to come from somewhere? you dont get it for free!

I think it's the fumes from the diesel that sends them funny

But they are happy with their low end torque, Fredt, they love that.

This may be a stupid question, but are there similar go faster gizmos for petrol engines? One hears nothing of them on here. Since the petrol engines are electronically controlled, presumably they can be chipped as well (or as badly) as diesels.

By the way Fredt, I know petrol (and lpg) engines don't need the extra va va va voom (if any), I'm just curious.

Davewill, none of this answers your question. IIRC, those who had chipped their engines reported much better performance, fuel economy, longer willy (I may have made up that last bit) etc etc, while everyone else who posted said that they are a rip off. Someone posted a long and apparently well informed discussion of how the different types work; the cheap ones are crap and the expensive ones (like he has) work. I can't find it, sorry.

Well.. I've had them on my last 4 cars and all made by the same company.. On my 2002 TDi115 Auto it has made a hell of a difference! I won't repeat my earlier posting, but have a look at the thread HERE

Is this the same bit of kit that brings the engine fault light on and drops the ECU into limp home mode if you turn it up to much :o ? the very same unit that's mentioned on the pic forum? sounds like a good idea to me! NOT!

out of interest how do you come by the 145 BHP figure you quote? have you had the car on a rolling road?

there are chips available for petrol engines, but personally the outlay for 10/12 BHP on a is to great, although the increase can be greater on forced induction engines

I would rather spend the money on other aspects of gaining performance, a decent suspension setup, improved braking...etc

there are ways of getting a lot horse power from the VR6 from capacity increases of 3Ltrs+, Shrick inlet manifolds, larger throttle body's and the forced induction routes of turbo's and super charger's :D all of which will give a boost in BHP but at a cost! either in reliability and a shortened life of the engine! if done badly or a decrease in MPG

me I'm saving for a VW Golf R32 then seeing if the engine will drop into a Galaxy engine bay

The cheap and nasty ones DO turn on the fault light and kick into limp home mode! Initially the Bro in Law had a cheap one on his new Mondeo TDCi 130.. If you revved it anywhere near 4000, the glowplug light would start flashing and the motor would loose all power... You had to turn the ign off for a couple of mins to reset it. Since replaced it with a speedbuster box - and absolutely no problems at all.

The 143 is from a rolling road and is the calculated power at the flywheel after taking into account transmission losses..
