I am in the process of fitting a Playstation two into my '97 Gal, and was wondering if anyone else had experience of doing this, I have a roof mounted screen in already and was wondering where to place the pstwo. I immediatly thought "under the drivers seat" but after a little deliberation started thinking its gonna get wet, muddy, stamped on or all 3. After a long hard day at work (not doing any, just trying to organise my install) I came up with replacing the tray on the back of the drivers seat with the pstwo, its small enough and I dont think it would be that hard to mod, it would just flip up when you wanted it (like the tray) and then get an upholsterer to make a curtain for it.....any thoughts.....

I'm sure that someone has done it, and will no doubt tell you how. A couple of thoughts from someone who knows sod all about this sort of thing.

1. Would it not be good to have the PS2 demountable, for security and to use it elsewhere)?

2. Might there be a safety issue having a hard case mounted on the back of the front seats? The trays are hard, but they are not as solid as a PS2 (which is a remarkably tough bit of kit). It's hard to think where to put it, though, without building armour plate for it and putting it somewhere on the floor. What about one of the rear bins, with a long cable? Pain to change the disc.

I would have thought that it would be highly likely to suffer skipping problems over bumps etc, this would be worse if it was not mounted securely i.e. seatbacks.

Good Luck - JB

I have a psone under the drivers seat. It's pretty deep down there under the seat and so far has had no kick marks etc on it. It's also well out of the way and out of sight too.

I put a dvd player in my gal for the kids same problem where do you put it.

SOLUTION

I had an old computer laying around. Its just wide enough to go between the front seats.

you won't one that wraps over the top and down case.Take the outer case and if it's small enough it will go under the arm rest in between the chairs,if not cut about a 1/4 off the bottom (be carefully not to cut to much off as it will foul the handbrake when you pull it up.

You can then secure the ps2 inside the case at the top.

And then i found an old cd storage box and secured that at the bottom to put dvd's or ps2 if you change the cases.

And finally get some sticky back vinyl and cover the computer case WICKED

And when you put it between the car seats it will be secure and not move around and can be taken out if in a dodgy area for safety.

P.s you don't use the computer unit at all just the case.

also the new smaller ps2 has a flip top for loading ( not a tray ) so needs more space to be able to open the top - under a chair wont be any good but it uses less power so might be better in a car, still need an inverter tho .

Stick it in the rear lidded cubby hole where the CD multi changer is normally fitted, thats if the multi changers not already in there  I measured up the cubby hole to see if a PS2 would fit and with only slight modification to the bottom of the cubby hole a PS2 will fit

as for the mains invertor you can get a 12V convertor that fits inside the PS2 doing away with the need of having 240V leads laying around

Just bought the 300w inverter from Maplins, as Ivor said they are on

special at the moment at half price. Paid 19.99 for mine then one day

I will get time to mount the ps2 somewhere and hide all of the wiring!!!

I managed to get hold of a dc converter that plugs into the cigar lighter - it converts 12v to the 8.5v needed by the new slimline pstwo. (pstwo has an external power converter, the unit only needs 8.5v, Magic!) No need for 240v running around my motor and no need to buy expensive 12v power supplies with fiddly installations. Got the converter from RS for

How’s it going, I just bought one of these PStwo's with the exact same plan or installation (had a PSone, but when I heard about the PStwo I had to step up, $150 for a ps2 and DVD player in one tiny package? booyah!)

Anyway, after googling for a 12v dc converter I came across this page. So I don't have a Ford Galaxy sorry :P but still need a little help please.

funkmiester what is this "RS" you refer to, I haven't been able to find anywhere else on the net that sells ~14.4v to 8.5v dc converters.

Thanks for your time, Ashlin.

Try Here

Its the 1.2A version.

The item doesnt come with the plug needed so I got that from Maplins, They are called power tip connecters and can be found Here. Although you might be better going into the shop with the original to compare.

Hope this helps.

If you have one of the anorexic PS2's :( stick it on EBay quick! theirs a shortage of them due to the container ship being stuck behind a grounded oil tanker in the Panama canal!

ok i've found a product over here that converts 12v to 9v at 1.5a do you think this would do the trick? i don't want to kill my PStwo from 0.5v too much. I still think it'd need more amps
