galaxychap Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 Hiya The front and centre courtesy lights do not work when doors are open the back ones are ok any ideas was this a common fault do the back lights work independantly to the others i.e differant fuse any info much appeciated Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 22, 2004 Report Posted November 22, 2004 First check that the bulbs and fuses are OK. Did they both stop working at the same time? Do they work from the switch in the lights, but from none of the doors? Quote
toneinblack Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Have your kids been messing about with the switches and turned them off from coming on with the doors open? Quote
galaxychap Posted November 23, 2004 Author Report Posted November 23, 2004 YES THEY WORK FROM THE SWITCH BUT NOT THE DOORS AHHHHH MAYBE THE DOOR SWITCHES BUT THEN SURELY ALL FOUR DOOR SWITCHES WOULD NOT GO AT SAME TIME HHMMMMMMMMM Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 OK - vehicle interior lights are usually powered live, and the switches make the earth connection. As the lights work, there is power to them, and as they work from the switch on the light itself, that is earthing correctly. So chances are that the earth wire from the light to the courtesy switches is broken somewhere before it divides into 4 - or is the electrics box under the front passenger seat wet? Quote
HalfPint Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Hi yaI had the same problem with my gal.I think they are run in a circuit(can't spell ser....)you know loop.I found that the two back door switches were faulty.Open one door at a timeIf you pull the switch out of the door pillar take the wiring connection off the switch and put a piece of wire between the two connections of the of the wiring block. If the lights don't work replace switch in door pillar andgo to the next switch.Do all four doors and you should find the dodgy switch or switches.I think i paid about Quote
galaxychap Posted November 25, 2004 Author Report Posted November 25, 2004 OK thank you both will give it a go this wk/end Quote
Guest fredt Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 The door switches are wired in parallel, from experience I find that the switches fail in the closed position leaveing the lights on, also do you have the graphic display unit in the dash? if so does it show the doors open? as the switches are double pole units, haveing two seperate switches in them, one for each ciruit when removeing the switches be careful as the cables can be a bit on the tight side and can pop back into the hole if you let go of them  have you lost any other interior lights? IIRC the glove box lights, the footwell lights and the two center roof lights are all on the same circuit also according to haynes the two center lights and the glove box light share the same earthing point, above the rear view mirror, have you had a new front screen recently or been poking aroung in this region?
