Help!!!!

Accidently put Petrol in my Diesel tank. The mechanic who came to recover the vehical said that the easiest thing to do was to remove the petrol tank. Has anyone out there done this? How easy it? How do you do it?

Any advice greatfully accepted.

thanks

How much did you put in? It's a right pain to remove the tank!!

::

1. Drain the fuel tank.

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

3. CAUTION:

Use a suitable packing material to prevent damage to the

underside of the fuel tank.Using a suitable transmission jack, support the fuel tank.

Hi Mike, I put in about 25 litres in a nearly empty tank!

Is there another way to get the fuel out?

The only jack I have is the one that came with the car.

I was going to support the tank on a wooden bar which would be blocked up and then remove the blocks bit by bit to lower it. How far can I let the tank down before removing the hoses etc?

Do I need to remove the spare wheel?

After looking a bit more closely... You can remove the Fuel level sensor through the loadspace floor and draun the tank fully from there... Got to be easier??

Procedure is as pic..

When I did this a few years ago (not in a Galaxy) the RAC would ony recover me to an approved garage who would pump the tank out. Exactly how they did this I'm not sure, I would have thought there was something in the filler pipe to prevent a tube being inserted to syphon the fuel out, so I guess they pumped it out from the fuel filter. They charged

remove the middle row seats, remove the trim around the door where it meets the carpet, remove the trim from the air vent at the the rear of the hand brake and the cubby holes under the front seats

now peel back the carpet and sound proofing from behind the drivers seat, there should be a round inspection plate in the floor? remove this and under there is the fuel pipe/sender access panel, unplug the sender and unscrew the outer ring, the pump/sender unit should now lift out, now get a packet of strong mints and a length of hose, the hose is to syphon out the fuel with, the mints to take away the taste of the stuff you swallow

if you need to remove the fuel pipes mark which ones which! the one near the plug is the return feed and the other the output, they are marked by arrows next to the spouts on the unit

have fun :o

Fred,

I've aways been told if you put petrol into a diesal it's ok as the petrol will dilute the diesal fuel down and will still burn when ignited in the combustion chamber.

And also will clean the injectors at the same time.

But the less petrol the better, but just keep topping up with diesal.

If it was the other way round diesal in a petrol car and you had started it up the you would have to strip down injector pump and lines and de-grease.

How right am i

A little of either fuel mixed isnt to much of a bad thing! its when you over do the mix that the trouble starts! I once had a company transit van and someone else in the office borrowed it, not long after they drove off they rang me to check it was a petrol version and not a diesel? I think the fact they were parked up three miles from the service station where he had stuck

A little diesel in petrol is a disaster, a little petrol in diesel should be OK - but not half a tank-full! Syphon or pump out as much as possible, then re-fill with diesel to the top. Drive for hours until almost all the fuel has been used up; refill to brim with diesel again and you should be OK.

Good luck
