Well it's a first for a garage to get difficult before even starting work, I've just, or rather should i say still have an ongoing nightmare due to using an Insurance approved repairer, There attitude has stunk and some of the stuff they have gotten up to is unbelievable. From asking around it appears insurance work as an approved repairer isn't the gravy train it once was with insurance companies now flexing their muscles to keep prices down, My advice would be phone your insurance company say you want to use a repairer of your choice and do so. Your insurance company won't be happy becuase it will probably cost them more, but then maybe they should also look at a companys customer care when deciding who to use as approved repairers. downside is it's betweeen you and the repairer to sort out things like courtasy car, but that normally isn't a problem. You could always tell your insurance company you want them to finance a hire if it is.

Your the customer, you've paid your premium, now tell them it's time to deliver on there side of the contract.

I wish i'd have gotten this sort of treatment from my repairer before they made a mess of my car, at least i would have been forewarned about how useless they are and would have gone somewhere else. Think yourself lucky, if this couldn't care less attitude is prevelnt now, what sort of care would they have put into doing a top class repair, and what sort of attitude would they have to any problems.

This is a copy of what I put on another post:

My experience of the insuranc company's approved repairer on my wife's Golf convinced me never to use them again. A simple panel beat and spray job turned out to be a three week and three attempt night mare - even then it wasn't done properly.

They replaced a slightly bent tailgate - badly spraying it so that primer could be seen through the paint - the inside even had patches of primer, in removing the rear window they placed it on the floor and severly scratched it (another

Well I don't think a garage with poor customer service can be described as 'Rogues'

The important thing is to lodge a complaint with the insurers so that they are aware of the problems you had.

Have you contacted the insurers about this? And asked them to sort it out?

I can't uinderstand how you 'can be told' by your insurers who will be doing the repairs - don't you get a choice?

See my comment above - they make it VERY difficult if you try and use another repairer. For example, they wanted me to leave the car with my repairer for a whole day before approving the repair and ensure that there was access to a ramp when their inspector turned up - although they would not give a time or guarantee that anyone would turn up. Any costs associated with this were my responsibility and they would not provide a courtesy car - YES you do have a choice.

When I told them their repairer was *rap and ripped them off, they were not interested, not even telling me the cost of the repair.

In situations like this, I insist on a confirmed appointment for either attending the garage, or meeting the representative.

Alternatively I simply look elsewhere for the service I want.

With regards to telling the insurers about a poor garage, then if you tell the girl at the call centre, then yes she may not be too concerned. If you speak or write to a senior manager then you get a better response.

Then at the end of the year if you decide to swap insurers based on your experience, then write to one of the directors telling him why you swapped insurers and mention any lack of concern from the previous person you contacted.

Repairers are the same as any other trade or service - only use garages personally recommended by people you know, or ones which you have confidence in.

If I am spending ( or having money spent on my behalf) a few hundred

Don't worry I'm the exception in this country - If I get poor service I make sure I complain and to be fair give companies the opportunity to sort it out. In the case of my insurance company, I dealt with a senior manager in customer relations, but ebven they didn't seem to care. My boss had a similar experience with them (using a different approved repairer) - in the end they sent him a case of wine, but were still not interested in sorting out the real issues. these companies obviously have "more than" enough customers.

On a diffrent subject, my local supermarket made the news this week - I've been complaining to them for several years, even trying to get to cheif exec level - had they listened to me, they could have avoided fame.
