Guest silverfox Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I have an intermittent missfire with my 1996 2.8 V6. I have changed the plugs and leads, fuel filter, used injector cleaner and a product to disperse water in the tank all to no avail. The problem seems worse when the engine is cold and the auxilliary air injection is working as it seems to smooth out a bit when hot. It is also worst when I have a small throttle opening and on deceleration. If I floor the accelerator, there is an initial hesitation and then decent acceleration. She will sit all day at 85mph with only a little flutter of a missfire. With the car parked, if I depress the accelerator slowly the revs will rise to about2750 - 3000rpm and then there is a big flat spot. If I blip the accelerator hard it will rev to 6000rpm with no problems. Anyone got any ideas? Quote
johnb80 Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) can give these sort of symptoms. I had it on my Cosworth Ultima and had to fit a new valve in the end. Dunno where on the Gal it is because I have a diesel, you should find a pipe from the exhaust manifold connecting to the inlet manifold with a valve on it. They sometimes physically stick open or the controlling device sticks. Regards - John Quote
