Guest homer75 Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 I am going to have to sell my 04 Galaxy Zetec 115Tdi. It has only done 1400 miles ( yes 1,400 ! ), my wife refuses to drive it 'cos 'it is too big to park'. I agree with her that it is not the easiest of vehicles for nipping in and out of tight parking places but you can't have everything. The Galaxy is dark green matallic and is absolutely immaculate. Can anyone give me an idea of how much I could expect to get for it in a private sale. I don't want to trade it in as I want to buy my next vehicle ( diesel Golf ) privately. Anyone intersted e_mail me at homerharper75@hotmail.com. I am in Glasgow, Scotland. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 How sad. Personally I find it easier to park my Galaxy than the Renault Scenic or Rover 820 I had previously. Parking sensors make it so easy! Did you know that the Galaxy is shorter than all versions of the current Mondeo? Better not get one of those! Quote
Tigger Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Has the zetec got parking sensors? Quote
Marky Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Tigger....yep, standard across the range. Homer...Why not take the wife out onto private land with a couple ofpallets and get her to do some parking practice to get her used to thesize and just how easy it is with the sensors?? (Be careful how you put thisto her !!! ) Quote
Tigger Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 It is differant to park in car parks. Although it is not much longer than a mondeo The turning circle is not that great  so you have to swing those pants a little more. You do have to be careful in tight spaces. the only problem with pallets is its a pain to get them in and out all the time? Quote
Richmond Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I'm sure that it's worth persevering; it's a psychological problem not a real one. The turning circle is a bit big, but the power steering is good and the footprint isn't particularly large (I think it's smaller in one direction than my previous Volvo estate). My old lady has no problem parking it. What about a couple of lessons with a decent driving school on parking? I don't know about your relationship, but I'm absolutely certain that mine would not withstand me trying to teach my wife to park (she's a better parker than I am anyway) or to do anything else, for that matter. Dave-G Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 :P Why not change the Mrs? B) The galaxy is shorter than most people think at first, and I would definatly agree that it "seems bigger" due to: [A] an extra row of seats ...well these are simply 'in the boot area with a roof on' The "bonnet" is mostly inside the car - with the bottom of the windscreen moved forwards ! [C] It's so high....all the better to view the area into which you intend to reverse into :( If you cant find a way to tactfully suggest she gets a tad of help to readjust to this high type of vehicle perhaps you could persuade her to view these pages with you for a few independant opinions on this tricky subject? Perhaps a few girly drivers on here could make a comment, particularly if they previously drove a small car such as a golf that you are now considering? BUT IF YOU DO CHANGE,BE SURE THAT SHE IS AWARE OF THE MASSIVE,LIFESTYLE CHANGING SACRIFICE YOU ARE PREPARRED TO MAKE SO THAT YOU BOTH HAVE A CAR THAT YOU EACH WOULD BE COMFORTABLE WITH.... :( (NOT) ER..it's not a mid-life crisis type thing is it? ;) Quote
Guest homer75 Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 Thanx to all for comments and cheers Igor - nice to know that you are managing ok with your Gal. I showed her the responses on here and I think she has seen the light - she was really throwing it around at the weekend so I may be keeping her ( I mean the Gal ) Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 ... and cheers Igor ... Does he mean me??? Quote
Guest rusty Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 ... and cheers Igor ... Does he mean me??? Igor Suggest you check the mirror .... do you have a bolt through the neck? If so he is talking about you, if not.. a bolt can look quite attractive.  regards Rusty Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 .... do you have a bolt through the neck? ...... a bolt can look quite attractive So that's what I've been doing wrong all these years  Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Alternatively -No, I'm a handyman - I make a bolt for the door, not a bolt fot the neck  Quote

iainkirk Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I've driven loads of cars in the 19 years I've been driving and I've done an estimated 750,000 miles in that time. I find the Galaxy actually to be one of the easiest cars to maneouvre and park! I now find hatchbacks especially bad in comparison, due to the lack of glass area and low seating position! SWMBO has a new shape Vectra, which I find really bad to reverse. Two tips: take out the middle headrest in the middle row - that makes through vision a lot better. Also, if nobody is sitting in row 3, fold the seats down! Quote
Guest MATT Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 i find the galaxy easier to manoeuvre, than the Vauxhall corsa, purely because of the million acres of glass, and thin posts, as the corsa has two very wide posts at the back, makes it very difficult. i also have park assist sensors - brilliant! you also sit higher up, and there Quote
pompadour Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Having done plus 400,000 in hatch and estate cars.... I find my Gal the easyest thing to park... okay so the bleepers help a tad. Love watching others cower as I throw it though gaps they fear to brave. Quote
davec Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 we had xr3 convertibles before galaxy and now wife loves it and hates being in a small car Quote
