Just found your site. found it reassuring and a little frightening.

Hhave had the loss of power problems (on french motorways) stopped the car . restarted it - no problem since.

Also had the clicking by the passenger door in the winter and the plumes of white smoke.

currently unable to lock the doors. sometimes when using the key, both front windows go all the way down. key gets stuck half way through its turn. now passenger door lock can be turned full distance but it neither locks nor unlocks the door.

tonight the driver door lock would not let go of the key without significanct force. now the key cannot turn the lock at all. feels like electrical fault to m. Any ideas from fellow owners would be helpful before i find myself at the mercy of the trade.

Your problems probably are centred around the barrel and spring mechanism that operate the central locking and power windows. They should open if the key is held in the unlock position and close if held in the locked position.

The cast bracket on the inside of the lock barrel sounds as though it has broken off and both will need replacing. Use the tailgate to lock and unlock the car as this will activate the central locking.

The parts are available from your local Ford dealer and with a little care and careful notes when you remove the panels you should be able to effect a DIY repair for little mroe than the cost of the parts for the locks. (dont forget you will need new clips for the door panel as they always break).

Do a search on the forum for door locks and you should find several threads relating to the problem.

Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of the Shalaxy's

Hi there, just read your problem. i am also a galaxy owner plagued by lots of problems and the one you just mentioned happened to me a short while ago.

There are a few options you can go for 1: replace both the handels and locks on both front doors, the problem with this opt is that you then have a new key for each door. 2: replace just the barrells , again you will probably have 2 new keys, or the 3rd, which is what i did, i purchased 1 new handel and lock for the drivers side, then stripped down the old drivers side lock and the passenger side lock to make a good 1 for the passenger side. to get any parts for the locks don't try Fords they won't sell you anything other than a genuine Ford even though it still stamped with VW,find a reasonable VW outlet, if you take your handels off the barrell parts are available from them.

To take the handels off is not too much problem, you don't have to take the panels off, when you open the door, in line with the handel is a torx head screw.undo that and it will allow you to pull the handel off from the front of the door.there is a small retaining spring clip there ,but it's not too much bother to clip on and off.

p.s i think i paid about
