Maggot Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Sudden onset of lumpinessAll of sudden the engine in my 99 2.3 Si has developed a 'lumpy' attitude. It idles erratically & is hesitant when accelerating. It still goes but not as well is it should.I have checked plugs-- OK. Looked at Injectors --OK (have been using injector treatment). tried all the sensor connections I can find -- all feel OK & no corrosion. Is this likely to be fuel filter or pump?It is now head scratching time, I may even need to resort to professional help & put up with the bills that follow. Anyone out there with experience of this type of behaviour from a Galaxy???Any input appreciated. :( :( Quote
Guest nelse Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Try looking for any air leaks on any vacuum hoses, or even one that has come off, that would cause the erratic idle, poor performance etc that you describe. long time ago I Had an RS2000 behave exactly like this, no previous warnings anything was amiss, got in it one day and It was running awful, Problem was a leaking servo hose. Denis Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 You could eliminate the ignition system quite easily yourself by pulling the HT leads off one at a time, normally this would make the idling even worse. But if you pull the lead off one of the spark plugs and there isn't a significant worsening then you have isolated the problem to one particular HT lead/ plug etc. Quote
charles Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 also check your EGR valve. Pull off the tube on top of this valve, and put a spare tube on it. When you blow and suck on it you must hear it close/open When it is stuck open (coal condamation) than it will run very roughly at low revs. You can remove the valve (see Haynes manual) and clean it if necessairy. Further the MAF could be suspect, disconnect it and try if it is running better without the cable connected. success Quote
Topbloke Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 another common problem is the wirring to the coil/plug lead, there has been a previous thread on this with photo's of what to check Quote
Topbloke Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 found the link, search for" ignition coil wireing" Quote
Maggot Posted November 18, 2004 Author Report Posted November 18, 2004 Many thanks for the suggestions. It turned out to be one of the HT coils breaking down under load. A Quote
