corskey Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 Help, over the past week I have been loosing all power on my TDi. This can happen in a car park or on the fast lane of the M1, though the fast lane is somewhat more scary than the car park. When it happens (intermittently), I can floor the accelerator and the engine doesn't rev at all. The engine workshop light then comes on, and the only way to reset this is to turn off the engine and start again. Anyone else had this, or can anyone suggest what the problem could be before I let the dealer loose on it. Cheers Corskey Quote

Guest spanner137 Posted November 4, 2004 Report Posted November 4, 2004 might be a faulty pedal position sensor on the brake pedal. chck it out with vag.com addresss 01 then 06, should tell you if swithes are working ok, same happened on mine, see if it happened after you had just braked Quote
corskey Posted November 5, 2004 Author Report Posted November 5, 2004 I've just had the brake switch replaced about a month ago by the Ford dealer :o :o  , but the problem then was that the Engine workshop light came on and th cruise control switched itself off ( I can imagine that this is the case as you need to brake to disengage cruise control) The problem this time is that when the fault occurs, the engine is not able to rev at all, even when I floor the accelerator (though I think that the engine is running) Quote
corskey Posted November 5, 2004 Author Report Posted November 5, 2004 Thanks spanner, right idea, wrong pedals - I dropped it into the local garage who diagonosed that it was a faulty switch on the accelerator, which unfortunately means a new pedal  Thanks Corskey Quote
Guest tojjer999 Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Corskey.... Hello buddy.I had exactly the symptoms that you describe, even to the point that if you turn the thing off and immaediately start it again, it worked perfect.... until the next time! It was never the same reason for it becoming gutless, sometimes cold, sometimes hot.I managed to have my Galaxy for a whole day when I bought it.I decided to travel from Weymouth to Exeter, and it was going lovely until all of a sudden,it went so gutless that I could have walked quicker.I had a big queue of cars behind me so I pulled over and switched it off,but started it again straight away and ........ perfect!.I took it back to the garage the following day and they had it for 3 days and replaced the MAF thingy- majiggy. It went fine for 2 weeks, and then exactly the same thing again.Back to the garage it went, and another 3 days later ,I got it back complete with a whole new turbo. They ran a diagnostic test and the info was sent to Ford and it seems that a 'flap' inside the turbo was occasionally sticking. They said that this is very common with these cars. All this work was done under warranty so it didn't cost me a penny(good job too coz they said the parts were a grand). That was 2 weeks ago and touch wood it hasn't happened since.Everything you explained is exactly as it was for me, so it's possible it might be the turbo.I know nothing at all about engines so I'm just saying what they told me it was with mine.Hope you get it sorted mate coz as well as being a pain in the ass....it's also bloody embarrasing. People think you're kerb crawling! Quote
