Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 14, 2003 Report Posted May 14, 2003 So my new purchase needs its two-year service which is supposed to be minor, but 2 nearest main dealers are quoting Quote
Guest FWH Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 My galaxy is also the TDI 115ps purchased new by myself in December 2000. It came with a booklet titled 'Ford Service Connect' The booklet covers the standard 3 year warranty called 'Classic' and is shown as 'no fee'. It also covers upgrades for 4 and 5 years for classic and upgrades for 3,4 and 5 years with services paid upfront. this scheme is called 'Premium' Quoting from the booklet 'It is a condition of your Ford Service Connect contract that your vehicle is serviced by an authorised Ford Dealer' It also says if you have any questions Phone the Ford Extended Service Plan Centre on 01277 253683 Also Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 15, 2003 Author Report Posted May 15, 2003 Interesting, thanks. The dealers quoted around Quote
asimons Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 The situation with warranties seems confused. As I understand it the car comes with a 1 year manfacturer's warranty which is upped to 3 years by the importer. It's all the same if it's not a grey import (though whether the 3 year warranty is Europe wide, as the first year will be, I don't know). To muddy the waters further, I've been told that all cars sold in the EU must have at least a 2-year warranty. Quote
Guest FWH Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 The new Galaxys all come with FREE 3 year warranty as standard. Some of the old models had 3 year warranties as special deals only ( I had an 'S' reg which had free 3 year extra-cover). In fact all Fords come with free 3 year warranties. You may have trouble with the warranty being lapsed due to the 16 month time as you suspect, as my booklet says that services have to be carried out within 1 month of the due date or within 1000 miles of the due mileage whichever comes first. I wouldn't give up though, I have always found Ford Motor Company to be sympathetic when you have a problem if you approach them properly. I think it's probably best to phone them and see what they say. Incidentally, you should have had 3 year warranty document with a transfer of ownership sheet attached plus the booklet. Fords say you can ask for the transfer document by phoning the same number. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted May 15, 2003 Author Report Posted May 15, 2003 Thanks, FWH I phoned the number you gave; Ford confirmed that there's a three year warranty - year 1 by Ford and years 2&3 by the dealer network. They've said that if I get the next service done ASAP they'll consider any mechanical failure sympathetically, and of course everything else under the waranty should be OK; they are even going to post me details of this "clasic" cover scheme. Looks like I'll pay the extra and take the car to the dealer for its service, especially with the suspension noise (see separate thread). Quote
