brethy Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Please could anyone help, I have a 1997 2.8 V6 4x4 and when driving at 30mph the revs needle gives a little flicker between 1500 and 2000 revs accompanied by an engine surge noise. It only lasts a second and just looks like a waver on the needle but it is very annoying, other than this the car is running ok and there has been no change in petrol consumption. Thanks for any help. Donna  Quote
Grandad Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 I have the same problem(?) on my 98 V6. I recently had the plugs and leads chamged and this made a big difference to the running but I still have the same little blip as you at the same revs. Does your V6 have any diffuculty getting up inclines - mine does. I wonder if it is sometning to do with the mass air flow sensor and if this was replaced might it also sort out the blip? can anyone else help? Mike Quote
brethy Posted November 6, 2004 Author Report Posted November 6, 2004 Hi Mike thanks very much for the reply, I have to say that I haven't had any problems going up hills and, apart from it being rather annoying there doesn't seem to be any reduction in power or performance. We also tow a caravan and it pulls it with ease and this also doesn't seem to affect the car. It is more noticeable at 30mph but still does it higher speeds I don't know if it is a problem or not  . Donna  Quote
Guest fredt Posted November 6, 2004 Report Posted November 6, 2004 You could try cleaning the ISV if your enginge has one? depending on the wether your engine is ODB1 or OBD2, IIRC OBD1 doesnt have one but OBD2 does, OBD1 engines have a throttle position sensor on the throttle body if this sticks/plays up it will hold the last known throttle position/revs till the ecu cuts backs the revs/throttle to the new position mine does something similar where every so often it will hold the revs at 1700RPM and then drop back to tick over after a couple of seconds once the throttle is closed! as its an intermitant fault its a b~~ger to find the cause and perminantly fix as the fault codes dont show up anythingthat would pin point the culprit :D Quote
