hi all

i own agalaxy 2.3 ghia, 02 plate.

ive lost cruise control.

i have took off vacuum tubes to brake and clutch and blew through them to see if i got any resistance when pedals were not depressed those connections seem ok as i got a lot of resistance until i depressed the pedals, i then disconnected the vacuum tube that went back through the car near brake and accelerator and blew through that and found there was hardly any resistance, could this be the problem , ie split in tube.

is the pump under the wing on the driver side or passenger side? and is it a big job to refit a new vac tube from pump to under the dash area.

thanks :D

On the MK1's it's tucked up in the cavity behind the passenger side indicator, on the MK2's IIRC it's in front of the radiator behind the grill under the slam panel, no idea of the hose route B) you have checked the obvious things like the fuses or the clutch or brake pedals electrical switch are operating ok?

plus there are two hoses that lead off the pedal switches, one to the throttle pedal servo and the other to the pump you have checked both using your pressure tester (lungs) :D

when you find the pump connect a temp supply to it to check its working if it does leave it running for a short while! and check the hoses/switches under the dash for leaks then, I would think that with the pump running and the ignition on you should be able to set the cruise and see if the throttle pedal moves? if it does then the vacuum system is ok its an electrical control fault!

i will give it a try, just waiting for a dry day to get at it.

Get out there man whats up with you? hypothermia is a real mans illness none of this nancy boy flu stuff and a couple of days in bed, you get out there and fix that car or die trying in the proccess  unless your coughing up blood and have a note from your mother all excuses for not fixing it are not valid and will not be accepted :P

ps. dont expect a reply from me before 1pm tomorrow as I'l still be in bed as its cold out and I fixed my Galaxy today

I thought all of the newer cars had dbw or drive by wire? which renders all of this vacuum pipe stuff obolete... To see if your car is DBW, just sit in in with it running in neutral and rev it to2000 rpm, the put your other foot on the brake... if the revs die it is definately DBW and the cruise is controlled directly via the ECU. I am familiar with this, as just retro fitted cruise to my 02 Tdi 115 Auto, and all I had to do was buy the correct stalk and a small loom (

remove the nsf headlamp assy.

it is a commen problem for the vac pipe to split near the pump.

dbw is used on the diesel engines.

i would not advise a temp supply to the pump as this is controlled by the pcm.

if you power the wrong wire by mistake, you could f**k the module, which would cost big money!

on TDI's the cruise control is DBW but on early petrol models its a vacuum servo operated system so unplugging the pump and sticking a temp supply to it shouldnt harm the main ECU unlessof course you stick the temp supply to the pumps plug on the loom and back feed the system!

with the pump running you should be able to find any leaks a bit easier? unless of course you have access to an low pressure air pump and can connect that up and pressurise the system to check for leaks?
