Anyone else has problems with poor tickover and misfiring on a V6?

I changed the oil and filter last holiday Monday and as the enine was filthy I gave it a quick squirt with Gunk and a wash down. It started OK and I ran it to dry everything off...

However, after driving a few miles on Saturday it started to misbehave and misfire, and have a slightly lumpy tickover. I've checked the HT leads to see if they are damp, removed and squirted with WD40 etc. But its still as bad.

I'm not sure if it is unrelated to the wash.....it seemed ok for the first few days after (but only shortish journeys).

The only other thing is that we put cheap supermarket petrol in the middle of last week (I've had this cause problems with 30yr+ old VWs but not modern cars!).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Richard

Which V6? 174ps or 204ps?

There is a recall program for ignition coils by VW. Depends on model.

Some engines/parts are eastern european and made from dung.

Thanks for the help.

The coil pack appears ok. But i can hear a short each time the engine misses; I've traced this to one of the plugs/leads; but it is too deep int he block to see! The trouble is I don't yet have the tool to remove the plug cap/lead!

I have 02 registered v6 galaxy which I bought secondhand in January this year.

In March it began misfiring and the engine warning icon lit up. My Ford dealer replaced both coils under warranty.

Guess what? It just happened again and it is back in the garage. I await the verdict, but it sounds like the recall of coils by VW wasn't very effective.

I also have a v6 VW Caravelle of the same age and never had a problem with it - maybe VW keep the decent builds for vehicles bearing their own marque!
